Can't remember the name of the restaurant: Seafood Restaurant at Cascais Waterfront

by hopang

The waterfront at Cascais/Estoril area is popular with open-air seafood restaurants. Most of them open for business during the evenings and at night until early hours of the morning. The prices of seafood are often listed on the boards and placed in front of the restaurants to attract diners. Local style seafood served with cooked potatoes and lemon slices.

Drinking

by Balam

In Portugal the best drink of choice is wine. Red wine is the favorite (and of course Vinho do Porto has to be number one) but white wine is also popular. Drinking wine during a meal is very common in Portugal but it is also popular after the meal is finished and come to that before the meal as well. Actually the drinking is considered almost socially intimate but is something that is not normaly done alone. As well as many great wines there are also some great beers the most popular of which is Super Bock closely followed by my favorite Sagres.

Various: Pork

by Balam

As in Spain and Italy There are some fantastic pork products in Portugal. The pig enjoys the acorn and white truffles widely spread in the cork oak groves of the Alentejo. Do not miss the famous "carne de porco a alentejana", made with diced marinated pork meat with red peppers and clams or the roasted piglet ("Ieitão assado"), golden and crunchy as desired. The sausages are excellent and you can delight with the smoked ham ("presunto") and the smoked pork sausages like the "paio" and the "salpicão". For those who like tripe, the Portuguese have a dish that will totally seduce you! The "Tripas à moda do Porto" is a popular dish made of veal and chicken tripe, sausage, smoked ham, dried beans, onions, smoked pork sausage ("chouriço"), herbs and spices and if you want to go the full Hog (pardon the pun) Suckling pig (leitão assado)

Seafood

by Balam

The food of Portugal is inspired by the Atlantic and thus many of the dishes contain fish, especially salted cod, Small fish usually cost considerably less than the larger ones. Most often fresh fish are sold by the kilo and there can be a large range in price depending on the type of fish. Some fish are thought of as special delicacies because they are rarer and with much better taste according to the palates of the Portuguese so their price is accordingly much higher. The Portuguese will happily pay this higher amount because they know they are getting a special fish but the tourists may not realize or appreciate that the prices for these special fish are much higher per kilo than other more common ones.A large fresh fish or the 'favourite special kind of fish' can be quite expensive, since they are sold BY KILO WEIGHT and the tourists often do not understand this. A normal fish to...

Britaica Cafe: Congenial service

by jfpessoa

This place has finally redeemed itself.Formerly it could be a miserable experience for foreigners as one of the waiters went out of his way to be rude and even nasty to them. He is now a thing of the past, and the current staff is a pleasant bunch of people. The food is the normal range of cafe dishes, but they are better prepared and presented than usual. Prices are average. If your waiter is Paolo, say hello - he is largely responsible for helping to put a good face back on this place.

Our Rental Car: Picnic with a View

by Bwana_Brown

On four different occasions as we motored around Portugal on our 2500-km trip, we simply pulled our rental car off onto some secluded lane or field whenever the need for lunch overtook us. This usually was the case when we were covering some of the longer distances between places where we had pre-booked our accommodations and, since we mostly were travelling on secondary roads, it was easy to do. This day, we were getting closer to the north end of Portugal, driving from Guarda to Lamego just south of the Douro River. By noon, we had reached the village of Sernancelhe on a little-used highway. It was a scenic area so we pulled off onto an even smaller road and soon thereafter spotted a very appealing looking field on the side of a hill. It was here that we had one of our typical picnics, consisting of our supplies of bread, cheese, tomatoes and wine that we had bought while passing...

Adega do Tagarro: Excellent fish!

by chetverona

Marvelous place for getting the real Lisboa feel. Very few tourists. Almos all guests are local families. The atmosphere is very lively, busy, family-oriented I'd say. The price is very reasonable and the quality of the food is absolute top home style. House wine very good. I recommend any fish. I had the sword fish and a salad. Desserts are nothing special, they are industrially made. Don't miss it! Sword fish, salad very fresh.

Fialho: Olive oil, seafood, chorizo and much more

by Dominiques

The kitchen is Alentejo is excellent. If you're into olive oil, garlic, sundried tomatos, seafood and those kind of things - which I certainly am. I visited many good restaurants in Alentejo, but one gets a special mention: Fialho in the little university town Evora. It's an authentic looking restaurant in the centre of town with an excellent kitchen. I had a tapas meal with chorizo and pata negra (unfortunately I don't eat meat), seafood, and so on.

Restaurante o Gordo: Maybe the best Pizza I ever ate

by ncfg

Well, in Caminha there some nice typical restaurants but that day we wanted to take a nice pizza and we didn’t get disappointed with the Restaurant O Gordo. When we get there it was soon, almost 12:00 pm and we asked a lady there if we could get enter and ask the meal. She was very nice, she recommends us the pizza (medium size - 7,50 euros) and I think it was the best pizza I ever had . The pizza was the medium size but it was big for two persons, we couldn’t eat all!And the view over the river was great. So we enjoyed the meal and the view a lot.For desert we had strawberries with chantili and express café to finish.

Pedra Furada: Dinner in Pedra Furada

by jorgejuansanchez

This is a road restaurant with homemade food at very good prices. I only had breakfast there while making the Camino de Santiago on foot. The owner showed me the restaurant and the menu and all was brilliant, but it was early and I was not hungry. It is located at only one and a half hours on foot to Barcelos. see above
