by ncfg Many people thinks that Portugal is just sun and beaches, well we have Ski resorts too , take a look to my Serra da Estrela page :) Serra da Estrela has two ski resorts. The main resort is just on the top of the mountain, on Torre, when I was there I couldn’t see it because of the heavy snowfall and the road to Torre was closed. The other ski resort is an artificial one, which you can see on my photo. It is located in Manteigas. It has a small area to learn ski and other to practice. Portugal is often visited by golf lovers. All through the country there are golf greens to suite every taste. Most commonly visited, though, are those in the Algarve area, which allow visitors to enjoy beach and golf in the same trip, apart from the fact that the weather is milder in Algarve all year round. All through the country there are good facilities for tennis players. Near Lisbon there are the Estádio Nacional courts, where the annual tournament Estoril Open takes place every year in the beginning of April. It is the biggest event about tennis in Portugal. During summer there are also some tournaments in the touristy zones such as in the Algarve. Those courts where the tournaments take place are open to public. Apart from weekends and bank holiday you can easily book a court in Estádio Nacional. I'm not sure about prices nowadays, but I used to play there and courts were not expensive. Belém by micas_pt As I mentioned before, Portugal has a wonderful coastline providing excellent conditions for water sports, and sailing is one of them. All through the country you will find marinas. But I'd say that the "biggest" concentration of marinas is in Lisbon area and Algarve, where there are quite a lot (I mean, for the size of country). For further information about sailing in Portugal or arriving in Portugal by yacht check the website: www.portugalinsite.pt/canal/defaultR.aspx?idc=739&idsc=834&lang_id=2 Leave a Comment Theme: Boating/Sailing

by ncfg Watching Bullfighting is one of the cultural things enjoy in Portugal (for the ones who like it). You will find Bull Squares, the place for the traditional running of the bulls, all over Portugal. On my photo you can admire the great architecture of the Bull Square in Campo Pequeno, Lisbon. I have to tell you that the Bullfighting in Portugal is rather different than in Spain, here there is no tradition to kill the bull on the square during the spectacle. Guincho by micas_pt Portugal has a marvelous coastline. Some beaches are ideal for surfers and windsurfers, both in the north or the south of the country. In Lisbon area, the Cascais beaches are those which are best for that sport - mainly the Guincho beach being windy, there are kite surfers and windsurfers there frequently. Also, near Lisbon are the Ericeira beaches, also pretty good for this sport. Ribamar, a beach in Ericeira area is amongst the most famous in Portugal for surf. On the south, the coastline near Sagres is the one that gathers more windsurfers and surfers. Being windy, the beaches here provide some good conditions for those sports. I'm not so familiar with the beaches on the north of Portugal, there I've heard about good beaches there for surf and windsurf as well. Leave a Comment Theme: Surfing

Serra da Estrela by micas_pt In Serra da Estrela you may find good spots for paragliding. One of them is Linhares da Beira, considered the best in Portugal. I didn't visit this village, though. Near Manteigas they also do paragliding. If you're not familiar with paragliding you may jump/fly with an instructor. For further information contact the Paragliding School in Linhares da Beira. Torre by micas_pt In Serra da Estrela you will find the only 2 ski resorts existing in Portugal. One of them is located on Torre and it is a "regular" ski resort which is opened when there is snow. When we visited, as there was no snow, skiing was not possible. Nevertheless the chairs were working and some visitors we using it to enjoy the view from up there. The other ski resort is in Manteigas and it is an artificial ski resort, therefore usable during year-round.
