Day Four - Barcelos to Ponte De Lima

by into-thin-air

Distance 33.6kAccrued ascent 440m A Long but Very Pleasant day, Lots of the route is on pleasant paths but still with some road walking along minor roads. Two up and over’s but nothing overly taxing, The route takes you through plenty of villages so quite a few chances of lunch / coffee stops. We stopped for our luch at Café Viana, just over half way and before starting the second Two up and overAll in all a Very pleasant day, with a walk along the river bank of the Rio Lima into the beautiful old town of Ponte De Lima

Day Three - Rates to Barcelos

by into-thin-air

Distance 16.4kAccrued ascent 220m This is the shortest day of the entire walk, There are some nice wooded sections on pleasant paths and although there is again a lot of road walking, it is again on quiet country roads with little traffic and good views. There is a chance of a lunch stop at Igreja. All in all a pleasant day, If a short one ;-) But the advantage is that you will have plenty of time to explore the old and interesting town of Barcelos

Day Two - Vilar Do Pinheiro to Rates

by into-thin-air

Distance 20.2kAccrued ascent 210m Another relatively short and easy day, Again a lot of road walking on the cobbled side roads so again, Hard on the old feet.As we had a very good breakfast at Vilar Do Pinheiro we only stopped once for a quick snack – there are several possibilities en-route.We had to take care whilst crossing “The Newly Restored “ bridge, da Ponte Zameiro, which crosses The Rio Ave, This bridge might well have been restored but it is now in Very Poor condition, See photo !! You start to feel like you are getting out into the country as although there is a lot of road walking today, it is mainly on quiet country roads with little traffic and good views.

Day One - Porto to Vilar Do Pinheiro

by into-thin-air

Distance 17.9kAccrued ascent 220m A fairly leisurely start to the Camino – As the desk in the Cathedral that issues you with your “Credentials” doesn’t open until 09.00, we had a fairly relaxed breakfast before setting off, Then collected our Credentials, Had a look around the Cathedral and got under way.We stopped in the outskirts of Porto to pick up some supplies for our lunch break to save stopping en-route,The “Way” was Very Well marked, however this day does have a Lot of road walking and a lot of it is on cobbled side roads so hard on the feet.Never-the-less it was a pleasant days walking to Vilar Do Pinheiro and easy to find our hotel once we arrived there ;-)

“The Camino Portuguese” split into 11 stages

by into-thin-air

On the following tips in this section I have broken down “The Camino Portuguese” into the 11 daily stages that we split the walk into, It is entirely up to the individual how you chose to split the walk up, some people will no-doubt want to do the walk faster and equally some people will want to take more time over it.The following tips are just intended to give you a rough idea of what is possible and hopefull will be of some use If you are planning this walk yourself.

Cabo Pontal - Praia Bordeira

by ant1606

We briefly stopped for a snack on our own at Cabo Pontal which is accessible from the town of Carrapateira, north of Vila do Bispo. A narrow road through sand dunes takes up to the rocky point overlooking Praia Bordeira. A few surfers were already afloat when we got there early in the morning, but more cars quickly came in and the small parking lot was soon filled out. Adepts may know better places for board fun, but we couldn't check the many other beaches along this stretch of coast!

Football (soccer)

Football is a great tradition in Portugal. Portuguese's are really fans of this sport.I love football.Euro 2004 Championship was realised in Portugal, and it was a great success. Portugal fought on the final with Greece but Greece won the Championship.

Portuguese Football

by nursesweet

If there's one thing the Portuguese love it's football! While in Lisbon, it is very easy to take in a football match, and in my opinion, well worth it! We went to see the hometown Benfica vs Scolastica while in Lisbon. The tickets are fairly reasonable and the metro drops you right off by the stadium. Games are usually held on Sundays.

If you are a sailing fan, then Belem is your disired destination to enjoy it as a wonderful seasport, not only for the pleasure of the eye, but also because of the big variety and choices of boats in the shore!
