Bojana Lux L bungalows for chemists !

by JLBG Updated Aug 1, 2008

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: The bungalows are set on a hexagonal plan and arranged by 7 groups of 10. Amazingly for a naturist resort, it has a very chemical look !

However as Ewa (VT Ewaanna) pointed out, "the bungalows are also arranged in the shape of a honeycomb. The bees are great architects, aren't they?".
Which means that nature (the bees) and chemistry can possibly agree, at least on a shape !

Warning : the following is a play for chemists only !

If you draw a chemical formula with 19 fused benzenic rings, that would make a C54H18 PAH (Polyaromatic Hydrocarbon) that would be named dodecabenzocoronene. It does not exist, as the highest PAH of that type known by chemists is hexabenzocoronene, C42H24. If you remove the six benzenic rings of the second circle but keep the central ring, the latter will be a flower bed, in the center of the group of bungalows. Then, remove two benzenic rings in the third (outer) circle and you will have the group of 10 apartments, figured in brown around a flower bed, figured in green. It could be named 1,2-phenanthrenyl-4,5-(3’,4’-phenylphenanthrenyl)-anthracene, though I am not absolutely sure of the numbering. Ingrid, will you help me checking that ?

    Sleeping beauty

by JLBG Written Sep 10, 2005

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: A beautiful carved fountain is standing on the lawn, along the reception building. It is a pity it is not flowing ! A dry fountain is always something very sad ! It seems it has never been completely set up as it is not sealed but only standing on logs. Certainly, that to make it work is not a priority !

    Open air showers

by JLBG Written Sep 10, 2005

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: If you enlarge the photo, you will see in the center, in the middle of the lawn/meadow, three open air showers. Under each of them, a wooden duckboard reprocessed from some pallet of breezeblocks. In the foreground, hidden under a wooden cover, the electric pump that feed the showers. There are also several showers on the beach.

    Collecting garbage cans

by JLBG Written Sep 10, 2005

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Garbage cans are collected every morning by a mere farm tractor drawing a farm trailer. It is not fancy but efficient as the whole complex is always perfectly clean ! What I do not know is what they do with the garbage. It is most likely that there is somewhere a hidden dump… Not very environment friendly, but what else can they do ?

    Scythe for the road banks.

by JLBG Written Sep 10, 2005

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Fortunately, they do not use to trim the road banks one of those noisy machines (cutting with a rotating string or a blade) but a very organic scythe. It is now very seldom that one has the opportunity to watch someone using a scythe. The movement of the scythe man seems so easy and peaceful that it is a pleasure to look at it !

    Mowing the lawn.

by JLBG Updated Sep 10, 2005

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: I know that an English visitor would not call this surface a lawn but a meadow ! Anyway, let it be called a lawn or a meadow, it is mowed in a rustic way, using an old casual farm mowing machine. It has no security protection but it works !
In the back ground, a children playground.

    The terrace dining room.

by JLBG Written Sep 10, 2005

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: By the side of the dining room, another dining room of the same size stands on a covered terrace. They do not seem to serve dinner in this part but it works as a bar, though the bar itself is at the other end of the building, which is not really convenient for waiters ! In one corner, on a stage stands a musician that plays some instruments and sings all evening long.

    The dining room

by JLBG Written Sep 10, 2005

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: The dining room is a huge room in the reception building. It has about a hundred tables of four. It is lit by a glass roof on top and by numerous chandeliers hanging from the wooden ceiling. It has a very pompous look, typical of the 60s-70s. This is where breakfast and dinner are served.

    Natural statue

by JLBG Written Sep 10, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: In the lobby of the reception stands a superb artwork. It is a part (trunk ? roots ? branches ?) of an old olive tree that has been polished and varnished. It makes an almost human figure with a very flexible movement !

    New private houses

by JLBG Written Sep 10, 2005

    4 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Along the northern arm of the Bojana river, recently built private houses have been built on the island, in front of those that were already built on the other side, on the continent. I do not know if they belong to the complex or not.

    Abandoned recent cabins

by JLBG Written Sep 10, 2005

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    1 more image

Favorite thing: South to the oldest cabins, a group of nice houses (see again the second and third photo of the introduction for a general view) stands with four cabins at each of the two levels. They are obviously more recent but have been built very lightly and are completely decaying, with some of the walls falling down, outer stairs looking dangerous. The environment is however gorgeous, with bushes of laurels in full bloom. These houses will have also to be put down.

    Abandoned oldest cabins.

by JLBG Written Sep 10, 2005

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    1 more image

Favorite thing: The oldest cabins must have been built in the mid 60s. They are made of a frame covered with corrugated iron sheets that have at one time been painted in bright reddish brown. There seems to be one room at the ground level and one on top. There seems to be neither water nor electricity. They were actually kind of improved tents ! This part of the complex is closed by a light wooden fence, is abandoned and though the access is not forbidden, it is not supposed to be visited (see the second and third photo of the introduction for a general view). I suppose they will be put down when there will be enough funding.

    Bojana Lux A bungalows.

by JLBG Written Sep 10, 2005

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Bojana Lux A bungalows are situated in two level buildings that draw a reversed Y (see the second and third photo of the introduction). I have not visited them but from outside, one can see that some have air conditioning, others have not. They are less expensive than the Bojana Lux L and are also in very good condition.

Bojana Lux L, bungalows around the central lawn

by JLBG Written Sep 10, 2005

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    1 more image

Favorite thing: This picture shows the central lawn, in the middle of the "benzenic horseshoe" and the bungalows in the background. As you cannot park close to the bungalows and have to stay at the central parking lot, luggage trolleys of the type found in airports are available to bring your luggage to your lodging. They have not been built recently but are in very good condition, as everything in the renewed part of the complex.

    Fondest memory: Quiet and peaceful

Bojana Lux L bungalows for non chemists

by JLBG Written Sep 10, 2005

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    1 more image

Favorite thing: If you are not a chemist and have skipped the previous tip, here is how the Bojana Lux L bungalows look like ''live''. What you see on this picture is a cluster of 10 bungalows arranged in a horseshoe shape with the "opening" of the horseshoe in front.

Fondest memory: It is very quiet. Old trees bring enough shade.
