    Sea & Mountains

by Aurorae Written Sep 28, 2002

VIsiting Kotor without climbing the ruins of the old fortress behind is unforgivable! :) Follow the steps through the narrow, steep streets of the old town, and you'll start climbing... You can reach the top of a very high mountain, but often people stop half-way, at one of the fortresses. The view is breathtaking and unforgettable! Don't miss! And don't forget to take a bottle of water with you if you're climbing on a sunny & hot day!
This picture was taken this summer (Aug. 2002) from half-way to the fortress. You can see the bay of Boka Kotorska, the hills surrounding it, and the town of Kotor below.

    NJEGUŠI
It is not easy getting Njeguši from the town of Kotor because the road that lead up to the mountain area is very very narrow and full of scary serpentines. However, if you like excellent cheese and smoked ham, plus ice cold mead drink, just restrain your fear and hit the road!

    Perast

Do not miss Perast, a breathtaking baroque town about 10 km from Kotor towards Hercegnovi. A special treat are these two little islands off its shore - one bears a church of our Lady of Rock and another a monastery. Photo: Perast webpage.

Kotor as seen from Fortress of St. Ivan

Climbing to the fortress at the top of the wall gives a birdeye view of the entire city of Kotor. Directly across the bay in this picture is the little village of Muo.

Another view from the path up to the fortress. It is amazing to watch the modern town down below, by the sea, from the ancient ruins up in the mountains above!
