    Piazza Restaurant: Piazza Restaurant

    Piazza Restaurant, Kotor

Very nice sandwiches, and apparently the best pizza in town according to the ever unreliable LP. Service was perfunctory, and messed up our order slightly. Coffee was so-so. The most interesting part of the visit was the dreadlocked family on the next table, and their son's pet rat. In the restaurant. I'm all for alternative lifestyles, even ones lived in a stereotype, but surely common sense says don't bring your pet rat to a restaurant.

  • the Pasteria: Too expensive

by Intbodyworker Written Aug 13, 2012

Due to one of the reviews on this website, we visited it for dinner. When I ordered a "white fish" dish, it came fairly promptly. However, instead of fresh fish many restaurants in Kotor offer, it was frozen sole that had been heated in a hurry, making it taste dull and very hard. The boiled potatoes and spinach mix was better than the dish. And the fish was 20 Euros! The pasta there is okay, but is served in a sort of large soup dish, so you dont get very much. All the salads lack creativity as you must mix your own dressing. The bruschetta consists of prepackaged small slices of white bread with 4 small heaps of cheese and a spoonful of diced tomatoes. Next time, stick to the "konobas" in Kotor-th

Ice cream at Kotor market: Ice cream at Kotor market

Ice cream for sale at Kotor market

We spent a few hours in the town of Kotor one rainy afternoon in May 2012. With such limited time there, we were keen to spend as much time as possible seeing the sights while quickly grabbing food on the go.

After picking up slices of pizza from Piazza Kotor in Stari Grad, we made our way to Kotor market and indulged in ice creams for dessert!

Kotor's market is located just outside the main gate leading into Stari Grad and contains a selection of stalls selling fruit and veg, flowers, foodstuffs and souvenirs. However, we turned our attention to a fridge (displaying a dozen or so flavoured ice creams) sheltered beneath a large "Frikom sladoled" parasol.

A handwritten sign advertised: "Sladoled – 1 kug = 0.70 Euros / Slatki kornet = 0.30 Euros". Even my incredibly basic knowledge of Montenegrin was sufficient to ascertain that cornets cost 0.30 Euros and scoops of ice cream cost 0.70 Euros each

Both Emma and I opted for 2 scoops in our cornets (costing 1.70 Euros each), and we both chose the "orange with chocolate chips" flavour, which was the most unusual flavour on offer and was very nice! I chose "biscuit" flavour for my second scoop (it tasted like custard creams) and Emma chose raspberry.

Piazza Kotor: Pizza in Stari Grad

    by SWFC_Fan Written Jul 11, 2012
    Piazza Kotor

My girlfriend and I grabbed slices of pizza at Piazza Kotor during our day trip to the city in May 2012.

We visited Kotor as part of a boat trip that also saw us visit Perast and the island of Our Lady of the Rock. As such, our time in Kotor was rather limited and we were happy just to pick up a quick snack in between sightseeing and exploring.

We stumbled upon Piazza Kotor on a square in the heart of Stari Grad, practically next door to the Maritime Museum; the huge slices of pizza on display in the window caught our eyes!

We bought slices of ham and mushroom pizza (a bargain at just 1.50 Euros a slice, given their enormous size!) and perched ourselves at one of the small tables outside, sheltering from the rain beneath a canopy.

The pizza had a delicious thin base and light crispy crust. It was good pizza! We weren't the only people who thought so; as we sat outside eating our slices we witnessed an endless succession of customers (many of them Americans from one of the two cruise ships that were docked in the bay) purchasing giant slices of pizza and extolling its virtues to their fellow tourists!

An advertising board out front showed that Piazza Kotor also serves pancakes and toasted sandwiches.

Huge slices of delicious pizza...and just 1.50 Euros a slice!

    Pizzeria Giardino: Pizzeria Giardino

by antistar Updated Apr 6, 2011

Decent pizza, if not spectacular. They seemed to be cooked too long, which suggested they didn't have a hot enough oven. If they could fix that their pizza could be great. Service was friendly enough, but they might put a lot of people off by sitting at the entrance smoking endless tabs in a manner common to these parts.

The restaurant had good seating outside, with places stretched out down a cool alleyway off the main square.

    Astoria Restaurant, Kotor

Attached to the well respected Hotel Astoria, I thought the restaurant here offered promise with an enticing menu. The offerings were a real breath of fresh air after endless days of pizza/pasta. Unfortunately the execution didn't match their aspirations, although the prices certainly did. The lunch was a bit of a flop, but it might be worth checking out in case it was an off-day. Certainly the hotel gets good reviews.

Decent pasta - from my experiences in Kotor I'd guess it was among the best in town. The highlights of the visit was the location, underneath the cathedral, and the service, which was the best of the trip by far. We found it after giving up on our Lonely Planet guide, which says a lot about the quality of the West Balkans edition.

The location in the cathedral square was perfect for people watching, and suggested to me that any restaurant located there would be either expensive or bad, but Pasteria was neither. The service was just perfect too - our waiter spoke English, Russian and Italian fluently, and enough French to impress the table next to us. The service was also warm and knowledgeable, without ever being pushy.

It's no wonder the place was almost reserved solid when we arrived, and very busy by the time we left.

You don't go to Kotor for the food. The food is boring and overprized. Most restaurants serve the same food. Kantun is a bit better, they serve abit different food along side with all the normal food.

The restorant is famous for its great seafood dishes, and has a wonderful location. The terrace of the restoran is made over the sea, so even on the hotest day you can feel a nice breeze...so refreshing..

UPDATE: It is beautifly redecorated, and some construction works were done as well. The terrace is much biger now and goes deeply above the sea. The views are fantastic. Take a closer look to the pictures!

Favorite Dish: Everything ( as a starter try some homemade cheese and Njeguska prshuta).
UPDATE: I had-Mashroom soup with tartufee oil, Risoto with avocado and spices and lovely fruit dessert- peaches wit sorbet and ice cream.
My husband had- fish soup, grilled calamari with mixed veg and chocholate cake with ice cream.

  • Kotor Restaurants: Medieval atmosphere

by rayzepp Written Jul 31, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The walled city has dozens of restaurants of all sorts. Their many feature is their atmosphere in the romantic old walled city. In the evenings, the squares of the old city are filled with people just relaxing and hanging out in cafes, bars, or local restaurants.

Kotor is a small-scale Dubrovnik, but has not been 'discovered' by international tourism. It is much more authentic than Dubrovnik, and so the prices are lower, the local people nicer, and tourists less obnoxious.
