The Kotor Bay is not where I would go if my main interest was bathing or water sports. There are beaches, and the water doesn't look too dirty. But Kotor is the innermost of twin bays, with a narrow opening to the next set of bays. Appr. 25 000 people live in the area, and then there are all the tourists. Where do you think the sewage goes?

Unique Suggestions: Enjoy sunbathing, and if you have to dip yourself in the water, take a good shower afterwards.

Fun Alternatives: Take the bus, or one of the minibuses, towards Budva, there are lots of inviting beaches along the route.

Kotor old town is a tourist place, most businesses are meant for the tourist and there will be plenty of tourist there anyway, so don’t get annoyed by this. It is still not as crowded is the big European cities and you can enjoy your time in relax matter.

Once you get off the bus.. there are two options.. if you have booked your hostel in advance maybe they will pick you up from there... my case wasnt that.. so i took a taxi in order to find a place, once we get there (family house) he charged me around 15 euros for 2or 3 kms .. a little bit more expensive than the most trendy cities in western europe, lol.. so be careful and ask for the price before the car leaves !! ... stupid me !! jjaa

    CUSTOM -
I hope it worth for the citizens from former Yugoslavia only, when traveling in Crna Gora in a group tour. We had to wait for more than one our on border line which remanided me on such occasions when entering in former USSR.

  • Ali Baba: this place definitely has 40 thieves

    by foxy1010 Written Aug 11, 2007

Ali Baba is a bar on the bay about 10-15 minutes walk outside the old town in the suburb of Dobrota. It's a very cool place - island themed with undercover decks, hammocks, sunbathing chairs and the water right in front of you.....shame they try to rip you off once they realise you're a tourist!

Myself and two Brits got ripped off four times in the same day: firstly i ordered a Martini (advertised at 2 euro) but was charged 4 euros because gin was added (but was already advertised as part of the drink). Second time, i asked for a bacardi rum, but was given a cheaper cube libre, so i threw it back at the waiter (not literally). Then we ordered 0,33l beers but received only 0,25l ones. Finally we ordered some cocktails from the menu card and were given the old "those are last years' prices" lines and had to pay an extra euro each.

In the big scheme it didnt cost much more or put a whole in my budget, but nonetheless it was irritating.

Fun Alternatives: Go to the Jager bar just up the road towards the Old Town. Much more chill and the bar staff dont try to rip you off.
