Ada Bojana, a naturist (FKK) resort

15 km south to Ulcinj, Ada Bojana (click to visit my page) is a triangular shaped 480 ha island that divides the river Bojana (Buna in Albanian) into two arms. The sea front is 1.8 km, each of the river banks is 2.8 km. The "summit" of the island tops at 3.4 m elevation. It lies at the southernmost tip of Montenegro, thus, the southern arm of the Bojana makes the border with Albania. A bridge connects now the island with the Stoja plain and Ulcinj.

Ada Bojana is now covered by thick vegetation that makes it a special micro ecological world, the home of rare plants and rare animals. Bird watchers and plant lovers will find here a heaven ! The island is a naturist resort (FKK) in complete contact with nature.

I wanted to write a page about Stoja, a narrow, 20 km long plain that stretches between Ulcinj and Ada Bojana, lined all the way by Velika Plaza (Big Beach), but it does not exist in VT location database. Then, I had to share my tips between Donji Stoj and Gornji Stoj. Under Donji Stoj I have put Milena canal and Stoja plain. Under Gornji Stoj, the group of restaurants that stands by the bridge that leads to Ada Bojana.

Ada - Ulcinj -Ada minibus.

Transport to Ada Bojana is not that easy
without a car. In the season there is a once
daily bus leaving outside the resort reception
at 9 am and a return bus leaving the minibus
(Furgon) departure point close to the hospital,
just 150 -200 metres from the roundabout at
the top of the town with 3 large round stones
once used in the making of olive oil. See the
picture below for info.
The trip costs €3 for adults and children and takes
about 20 minutes for the 15 km journey. The driver
does not speak English, but will put you where
you asked to be dropped in the centre within reason.
Taxis cost about €15 running on the meter when you
order by phone, but you might try to bargain for €10,
but difficult.
I would have thought there might have been a
regular bus service, but maybe that would prompt
day trippers to disturb the tranquility of one of the
largest Nudist colonies in any Former Yugoslavian
country with hoards of voyeurs and peepers.

Walk East

While most visitors to Ulcinj don’t usually venture much further east than the Old Town, a walk along this stretch of coast is very rewarding. As you walk past the Cathedral of St. Nikola, you will walk downhill towards a small pebbly beach. Further on you will take a narrow local road that winds around the short headland and up and down small hills. Great stroll with beautiful views back towards the old town and along the rugged coastline. Watch out for the knarled tree trunks of the ancient trees along the way. (Can also be seen in the garden of Cathedral of St. Nikola)
