On one day we made a day trip to Stari Bar. We first took a bus to Bar (frequently) for Euro 2.50. This took maybe around 40 minutes.
Outside the main bus terminal in Bar, there is a local bus (Olimpia bus company) near the railway station which runs hourly to Stari Bar for Euro 1.00.
We tried to make our Ulcinj-Bar bus stop near the turn-off to Stari Bar from where it would have been about 1,5 km to walk but the driver didn't understand me. If you speak the language then this would certainly be an option.

There are plenty of buses from the main bus station in Podgorica to Ulcinj every day. We took the one at 10.58 and arrived at about 12.40 in Ulcinj.
During the journey you will see part of Lake Skadar and if you sit on the right side an old fortress by the lake. Later you will travel through a long tunnel and soon you will see the coast.
The bus ticket cost Euro 6.00 in August 2010.

Thanx for your reply. I got an email from
a Ulcinj tourist web site and they quoted me the price of 6 euro
for minibus to Skoder,
but I guess as you have to add 1 or 2 euro a bag it
would work out at around 10 euros. Was it a nice route
by Lake Scutari with the minibus and how was the road?
Do you remember how long was the journey, 2 hours?
I stayed last year in Shkoder at Hotel Kaduku which is just
on the big square with the heroes statue..
(Lagja: Cajupi 84/1 Sheshi 5 Heronjte. It just opened after
a renovation, prices were 18 and 23 to 25 Euros a night,
recommend it, had own water supply and own generator
which is a must, and buses ran often before mid day to
Tirane on the opposite side of the Square.
SEPTEMBER 2010 UPDATE
After almost 2 weeks in and around Ulcinj, I can say that
you can take the minibus at around 6am then 12am from
the minbus stand just by the hospital going from Ulcinj centre
coming from the roundabout with 3 round stones (for making olive oil )
and walk down the road towards the bus station. You will pass the MAX
non stop shopping centre.

The scheduled run from Bar to Ulcinj is a wonderful
way to see the coastline south of Bar and although
you might be told it takes 30 Mins, I would say 45 Mins
is what it could really take when it stops to pick up and
drop off people en-route. The buses run sometimes every
half an hour or after 4.30 pm every hour and a half.
The ticket costs €2.5 and free for under 10 year olds,
my daughter went free one way and paid on the return
journey. We got a nice former Turkish tour bus for our
Ulcinj to Bar trip.
Bags are free.

If you are planning on travelling onto Albania from Montenegro, Ulcinj is the best place to catch a connecting bus which takes you over the border at Sukobin/Muriqani. However the minibuses do not leave from the bus station in Ulcinj but from the post office...a short walk away on 26 Novemebar. The buses leave at the unsociable hour of 6.00 and a later one leaves at 13.00.
We actually did this trip in a taxi as during the low season we were able to haggle a great value fare direct to Shkoder in Albania...were lucky with the added bonus of avoiding the Albanian tourist tax of €10 becuase we were with a local!

Like most other services in Ulcinj during the low seson, bus connections to and from Ulcinj are not as frequent as during the buusier summer season. There are daily connections along the coast from Herceg Novi to Ulcinj via Budva and Bar but you need to check the times locally as these are subject to change. I found printed and web timetable impossible to track down!
We got a minibus from Kotor to Ulcinj via Budva and Bar which cost around €8 one way and took approx 2 and a half hours. The bus left Kotor at 12.30

There is "convenient" bus connection to the Albanian city of Shkoder. It leaves Ulcinj at 06:00h from the bus station. For the anxious, just across from the bus terminal waits a hotel disguised as an apartment building. The front desk is located in the office of a local travel agency or rather somebody combines the two businesses.

From Bar sometimes the best option to Ulcinj is taking a taxi, especially when arriving by train from Belgrade or elsewhere. At the Bar railway station there is a huge line-up of taxis. The price to Ulcinj for the whole car is 12Euros so if one finds companions it could drop to 3Euros a head - no more than a bus ticket.
