Restaurant "odžaklija" Hotel Pelikan
After reading our very own gourmet travel expert
member JLBG, I was curious to see the Restaurant Pelikan
had fared in the last 5 years and with Virpazar
with lots of new money and tourists, how this
decades old establishment had withstood the higher
influx of visitors. We were on a budget for this trip
and my 12 year daughter also a vegetarian so
didn't fancy ordering a whole fish platter.
After making use of the brand new ATM machine next
to the hotel We entered this small family
run establishment (Established 1960).
Well I ordered a fish soup and a salad for my
daughter. We sat on the terrace outside not inside
as it was very warm.
The waitress didn't speak any English, but another woman
probably from the reception did and helped us out
On a neighbouring table was a group of German hikers
with their German/Austrian guide and they had gone
for the whole 3 course shebang ...shebang is an English
expression so please don't go ordering any 'shebangs,,haha.
Well they were well satisfied and the guide obviously
took his guests here for a reason.
If your in doubt about if the fish will be good or not,
I think testing the fish soup which seems to cost €2
wherever you go a good bench mark of what they have to
offer, also good for tourists on a shoestring budget.
Inside the hotel had many ornaments and pictures that
showed that this hotel/resto was indeed very well established
and even kind of a local institution.
If I had a bigger budget and other fish eating lovers with me
I would have maybe have gone for the smoked eel or many of the
other sorts of Skadar fish on offer.
I had the fish soup which was superb and my daughters
mixed greek salad with a smily face on also great.
Of course a cold Nik beer as well.
Though the advertisement for the restaurant stands on the square, the entrance is behind, along the road that leads to the main road Bar-Podgorica.
This is also a hotel and they organize cruises on the lake.
Njeguški pršut (Ham of Njeguski) was served with olives and slices of paprika. It was very tasty.
