Favorite thing: The Municipality of Palilula covers an area of 44,661 hectares, which is inhabited by around 180,000 people.
Its name emanated from the fact that, at the time of the Turkish rule, it was forbidden to smoke or to use tobacco in any way in the streets of the town, due to the threat of fire. Those who could not do without smoking, in order to light up a pipe, had to go outside the city walls. One of such places where they went was the present-day Palilula (meaning “light a pipe”). It has been a Belgrade municipality since 1957.
Fondest memory: The patron day of the Municipality of Palilula is St. Mark’s Day, on May 8.

Favorite thing: The Municipality of Novi Beograd covers an area of 4,074 hectares, which is inhabited by a population of 236,000.
Its name Novi Beograd (New Belgrade) was mentioned for the first time by the namesake cafe of the owner Petar Kokotovic, opened in 1924, in Tošin bunar Street. Some time later, in 1939, the first issue of the weekly newspaper "New Belgrade" appeared in Zemun as well. The construction of New Belgrade was started by the youth work brigades in 1948, and the Municipality itself was formed in 1953.
Fondest memory: The Day of the Municipality is April 11, the date of commencement of construction of New Belgrade, and it’s patron day is the Shroud of the Most Holy Virgin, on October 14.

Favorite thing: The Municipality of Cukarica covers an area of 15,650 hectares, which is inhabited by a population of around 160,000.
It got its name after the Cukar’s Inn and Cukar drinking fountain that were situated somewhere vis a vis the present-day Ada Ciganlija. By the decree of King Peter I dated December 30, 1911, the village of Cukarica was divided off from the municipality of Zarkovo into a separate municipality and, therefore, that date is nowadays celebrated as the Day of the Municipality. During the first few years after the Second World War, it was the 7th urban region but, as of 1950, it has again had the status of the City municipality.
Fondest memory: Its patron day – The Holy Trinity, the Municipality of Cukarica celebrates 50 days after Easter Day (a movable feast).

Favorite thing: "The sky above Belgrade is wide and high, unstable but always beautiful; even during winter serenities with their icy splendour; even during summer storms when the whole of it turns into a single gloomy cloud which, driven by the mad wind, carries the rain mixed with the dust of panonian plain; even in spring when it seems that it also blooms, along with the ground; even in autumn when it grows heavy with the autumn stars in swarms. Always beautiful and rich, as a compensation to this strange town for everything that isn't there, and a consolation because of everything that shouldn't be there.
But the greatest splendour of that sky above Belgrade, that are the sunsets. In autumn and in summer, they are broad and bright like desert mirages, and in winter they are smothered by murky clouds and dark red hazes. And in every time of year frequently come the days when the flame of that sun setting in the plain, between the rivers beneath Belgrade, gets reflected way up in the high celestial dome, and it breaks there and pours down over the scattered town. Then, for a moment, the reddish tint of the sun paints even the remotest corners of Belgrade and reflects into the windows, even of those houses it otherwise poorly illuminates".
