Favorite thing: You have to take time to chill while in Belgrade, while in Serbia....
have a drink, sit down....look around and all the beauty will sink in. Not yet lounching itself into the caplitalist way of life.... Serbia is still one of those places where it is more important to chill out than to work :)

Favorite thing: These buildings have a bum rap. Are they pretty? Not really. But one has to take their history into account to appreciate them. The post-war period was marked by huge social change in Yugoslavia. Destruction during the war created a massive shortage of housing and industrialization was rapid creating an exodus from village to city. This meant that lots of cheap housing was needed in Belgrade and other cities in the country.
Most of the apartments in these buildings are small and there are hundreds and hundreds of units in areas like Novi Beograd (New Belgrade), Cerak and Medakovic. Though they may not be really pretty, they serve a purpose and the lower levels have shops and often caffes. There are usually parks and playgrounds withing easy walking distance. Additionally, almost every one of these apartments has a balcony. Novi Beograd is withing walking distance of the city center of Belgrade. Given the choice, I would prefer to live in one of these buildings than in some soulless suburb U.S. suburb where you have to drive to get anywhere away from your house any day.

Favorite thing: Knez Mihajlova Street links Terazije with Belgrade’s most popular promenade, Kalemegdan Park. Laid out in the first town plan for Belgrade, prepared in 1867 by Emilijan Josimovic, it is the oldest and most completely preserved area of old Belgrade. Foreign travellers once compared Knez Mihajlova Street to the most famous trading streets of the largest European cities. The most wealthy and influential leaders of the city’s commercial and political life built their family homes here. Knez Mihajlova was the first street in Belgrade to be named by the administration (1872) and is one of the few streets whose original name has never been changed. Considered the city’s main street from the outset, it remains to this day the most lively trading, business culture and restaurant area.

Favorite thing: In Belgrade there's always something happening to meet everyone's taste.
The City of Belgrade is the founder of 9 cultural events (FEST, BITEF, BEMUS, BELEF, International Competition of Music Youth, Festival of Documentary and Short film, October Salon, Joy of Europe, Belgrade Book Fair), and also the supporter of 38 events in the field of culture performed in Belgrade.
Don't forget that Belgrade is the centre of culture and art of Serbia and Montenegro. It is Belgrade where our most notable artists create, where over 9.000 theatrical performances, exhibitions, concerts, performance events, and other artistic programs are presented and where prominent authors in the world of art are hosted. Belgrade is the centre of the highest state and national institutions of culture and art: Serbian Academy of Arts and Sciences, the National Library of Serbia, the National Museum, the National Theatre and the University of Arts.

Favorite thing: My experiance tells me that who ever visited Belgrade, had to return at some point. I know it sounds pretentious but it's true. Where ever you go in this town you will find nice people who are more than willing to help you. If you go out it is guaranteed that you will meet a whole bunch of people. The thing is, even if you want to, you can't be alone in this 2,5 mil people city. Well, you can but it's not an easy task. People will never let you feel down!
Fondest memory: Since I will be leaving this beautiful city to live somewhere else with my husband, I am allowed to tell about my fondest memories...
I don't have just one! Everything nice and everything bad happened to me here... This is where I first fell inlove, got hurt... This is where I learned to walk, to ride a bike... This is where my oldest friends are... Where I spent wonderful moments with my parents and late Granny... And finaly, this is where I met my husband and got married...
