Zeleni Venac is known today is the open market of the same name. Also it is one of the major terminal stations of the city's public transportation, with almost 20 bus lines beginning there, is located next to the market. Near is Economic Faculty of Belgrade, main BUS station and railway station.

Zeleni Venac is located in downtown Belgrade, just few minutes away to the east of Terazije, the designated center of the city, down the Prizrenska street.

Spring cleaning and tidying up rafts on the Danube, the soft backbone of Europe where the lovers of this great river spend their vacations. One of the beautiful little houses which has been floating at the confluence of the Sava and Danube under the Kalemegdan fortress for more than thirty years.

"Konji vrani" (Black Horses) made by Toma Rosandic in front of the beautiful Parliament building in Belgrade.

These are just some photos I took (or ones I "borrowed" from people that took them) of Belgrade.

Belgrade is an incredibly beautiful City with many contradictions and cultural varieties in it.
Hope I can describe some of it’s “extravagance” here. ;o)
Enjoy the Off The Beaten Paths of Belgrade!

Belgrade - a remain of the war
    by peter_dimov
I don't know if anyone, wandering alone in the city centre for the first time, has come across a street with two buildings from each side, which are similar in two things: first, by their architecture, and second, that they both are busted. They are the buildings hit by bombs in 1999 when there was the war commanding of the country, ruled by Milosevic at that time.
But, nowadays, everyone who comes to Belgrade will spot these buildings. The problem is that you can't enter any of them.

THERE IS A CHINATOWN IN EVERY CITY IT SEEMS. FROM NEW YORK, TO LOS ANGELES, EVERY MAJOR CITY SEEMS TO HAVE ONE. WELL, THIS IS BELGRADE'S (ACTUALLY IN NOVI BEOGRAD).
IT IS THIS BIG GREEN BUILDING. IT CONTAINS MANY FLATS WHERE MANY OF THE CHINESE LIVE, AND BELOW THAT, ON THE GROUND FLOOR IS WHERE THEIR SHOPS ARE. YOU COULD FIND MANY TRADITIONAL ITEMS THERE: FOOD, CLOTHING, TRADITIONAL TEXTILES, YOU NAME IT!!
UNFORTUNATELY FOR THEM, WHEN I WAS IN TOWN IT WAS AT THE HEIGHT OF THE "S.A.R.S." OUTBREAK. THERE WASN'T A "LOCAL" SHOPPING IN THIS DISTRICT OR ANYWHERE CLOSE TO IT. ALL I SAW WHEN PASSING BEHIND THE BUILDING NEAR THE SHOPS WAS CHINESE PEOPLE. I MUST ADMIT, I BOUGHT INTO THE HYPE AND AVOIDED THE PLACE AS WELL!!

    Monastery on Senjak

The monastery was built in 1936 as endowment building of Persa Milenkovic. The church was constructed in the traditional style of Serbian mediaeval architecture: designed as a monumental five-domed temple with cross-like foundation. On the built iconostasis there are icons made by Russian painters in 1937-1939. The paintings in the secco technique in 1975-1980, are works of the painter-conservator Dusan Mihajlovic.

The St. Nicholas Chapel has been built within the konak (lodging), which has been raised along with construction of the church. In the monastery yard, there are the graves of the Church dignitaries: Josip the metropolitan of Skopje, Dositej the metropolitan of Zagreb, Arsenije the metropolitan of Budim and Damaskin the metropolitan of Zagreb.

It's operateing and it's womens monastery.

I am a bit of a movie lover, including Serbian Films. I couldn’t resist going off to find the spot where a scene from one of my favorite Serbian movies was taken. I got close, but not quite!! Now after looking at a map, I realize that I could have gotten there, and it probably would have been easier to get this photo that what I did. We parked our car and walked through a field to a tree line to take this photo. If you’re wondering what the Film is, it’s “Rane” in America; “The Wounds”.

Belgrade is one of the few Cities that was bombed so many times that we stopped counting. Only in the 20th century it was bombed in 1915 (Austro-Hungarian Army), 1941 Germans (70% of the city completly destoyed), then 1943 US and British (they were aparently bombing the Germans, and in 1999 by NATO.

Only few buildings survived the WWII.
This is one of them, because it says on the galeb of the roof that it was built in 1921.
You can see on it a man holding a traditional Serbian (and Montenegro) instrument GUSLE and I can't tell what is the woman holding 'cause of the damages on the sculptures.
The initials, probably belonging to the owner of this building (at that time) are written in Serbian Cyrilics and they are D. J.
