If you plan to travel to Serbia you will not find any where to exchange your money if you are in in Croatia. Not in your hotel...not in a bank nor at an exchange office. None at Gatwick airport in UK either.
So have a little with you if you plan to cross the border into Sebia. And in Serbia you really need to have some of the local currency.
Unique Suggestions: You can change money at the Railway in Serbia but watch out they might pass you Macedonian money which is of lesser value. And no doubt at the airport.
And you will need a lot of money if you are unlucky enough to find a taxi shark!
Fun Alternatives: Order Serbian money well in advance just to have a little.

There are many unlicenced taxis in Belgrade, most of them in the airport. They all will be waiting you to leave the airport building and will surround you as you leave. They will charge over average.
Unique Suggestions: The best way to eliminate this trap is calling a licenced taxi which is registered to the Taxi Association.
Fun Alternatives: One of the registered taxi company in Belgrade is Beogradski Taxi and they offer you a 10% discount.
When you arrive to Belgrade you can call +381 11 9801 to take a Beogradski Taxi.
You will be asked where you are and where to go by taxi and get the taxi number on the phone. In a minute the taxi will come where you are.

Be careful with Taxi. Some of them might try to rip you off! And never enter a taxi that, beside it's company sign on roof, doesn't have an extra sign with a number and Belgrade symbol. That means that the taxi driver is registered with Taxi Associacion and it is less likely to trick you.
Unique Suggestions: If you use it and you sence something fishy, take a receipt where it should be written the taxi company that it is with, it's number within the company, relation and price.
Fun Alternatives: My suggestion is to use public transportation as much as possible. Though you should try to stay away from the rush our. All parts of the city are relativly good connected and once you are in the city, you can go on foot mostly.
The problem is that Belgrade still doesn't have "day Ticket" or something similar so every time you get on the bus/tram/troll you have to punch in a new ticket that could be bought on the bus or at newspaper stands where they are cheaper.

The official letter in Serbia and Montenegro is (Serbian) Cyrillic and streets and the most of institutions are marked by it. Maybe, it will make you a problem but try to learn it.
Officially the Cyrillic alphabet is used, and the Latin alphabet is in use. Both are taught at school.
Unique Suggestions: In distinction from the most of other languages in the World, our language is based on the rule “write as you speak, speak as it’s written”. The Serbian Cyrillic alphabet has 30 letters - one letter for every sound, which makes it quite unique compared to the other alphabets.
There are no two, three or, even, four letters for an one sound like in English or French. Also, “A”, “E”, “O”, “J”, “K”, “M” and “T” are same as in English but be careful, when you see “B” it is our “V”, “H” is “N”, “X” is “H”, “P” is “R”, “C” is “S”, “Y” is “U”, and we have some voices that English language doesn’t.
- Letter No6 is same as Italian pronaunce "GI" (like "GIovanni")
- Letter No8 is same as French pronaunce "J" (like "Jean")
- Letter No14 is same as Spanish pronaunce "LL" (like "Castilla")
- Letter No17 is same as Spanish pronaunce "Ñ" (like "NuÑo")
- Letter No23 is same as Italian pronaunce "C" (like "CiColina")
- Letter No28 is same as Englih pronaunce "CH" (like "CHoice")
- Letter No29 is same as Englih pronaunce "J" or "G" (like "John", "GeorGe")
- Letter No30 is same as Englih pronaunce "SH" (like "SHop")
Rest is the same but
- "A" is always and everywhere "A" (like "Alex),
- "B" is "B" (like"BomB"),
- "V" is "V" (like "Victory"),
- "G" is "G" ("Grand"),
- "D" is "D" ("DonalD")
- "E" is "E" ("ElEphant"),
- "Z" is "Z" (Zero"),
- "I" is "I" ("IndIana"),
- "J" is "Y" ("Young", "Youth")
- "K" is "K" ("KinKy),
- "L" is "L ("Land"),
- "M" is "M" ("Mark"),
- "N" is "N" ("None"),
- "O" is "O" ("Opera"),
- "P" is "P" ("PulP"),
- "R" is "R ("Ronald"),
- "S" is "S ("Sweet"),
- "T" is "T" ("Traffic"),
- "U is "OO" ("spOOn", "cartOOn"),
- "F" is "F" ("Freez"),
- "H" is "H" ("Holland"),
- "C" is "TZ" ("fiTZerald").
It is not heavy as I wrote and you will have some fun learning it.
Fun Alternatives: Ask some young people what you interesting for. Almost everyone speaks one of the world languages.

Do not go to the zoo!
Or go to the zoo and tell everybody you know how awful the zoo in Belgrade is. All the animals are poor inside. Especially the lions, tigers, bears and the rino are really regretable!
After the visit I felt bad, weak and guilty - this was my worst experiance in Belgrade until now, after two years in Belgrad!
Unique Suggestions: Tell everybody how awful the zoo in Belgrade is.

Do not take a taxi from the airport
They will ask you several times to take a "very cheap taxi into the town". In fact, they will charge 10 times more than "normal" taxi, but - unfortunately - there are no "normal" taxi. So the only way to avoid those taxi from the airport, is to call a friend or colleague to pick you up from the airport.

I suggest that you don't take a taxi directly from the airport because they are likely to overcharge.
Fun Alternatives: There are busses available to town that are very cheap or you can pre-book a taxi (look at my trasport tips for info)
