Cacak Things to Do

The head of a tribal state Stracimir, brother of Stevan Nemanja, built the church, dedicated to mother of God, which is nowadays called Church of St Vaznesenje and it is located at the highest peak elevation in the centre of the town.

Museum was founded by Jovan Obrenovic who was brother of Milos Obrenovic. On the outer facade there is the only coat of arms of the family Obrenovic in Serbia. Museum has three themes and there are: archeological discovery from prehistory and roman period to the medieval, then Ovcarkablar monasteries and churches from this area and Cacak and the area in the uprisings and wars from 1804-1941.

Nadezda Petrovic monument is situated in front of the high school Gymnasium . She was our famous woman painter who also worked as a nurse and died during the First World War. It was raised in 1953 for her eightieth birthday. Her brother was a famous writer Rastko Petrovic.

High school in Cacak (Gymnasium) is very old. It was founded in 1837 and it is situated in the center of the town. I went to this school and I have a lot of memories from that time, I like that time, my school friends, my teachers. That was very joyfully period of my life.

Ovcar banja is 161km far from Belgrade and also half way between Cacak and Pozega. It is surrounded by the woods of the mountains Ovcar and Kablar and the river Zapadna Morava runs through it. This health resort have term mineral water (38 degrees), great clime and clean air. Ovcar banja have auto camp, post office, swimming pool with term mineral water in it , two lakes on the river which are great for the water sports, Ovcarkablar monasteries and it is great for weekend vacation

Ovcarkablar monasteries are the gratest value of Ovcarkablar canyon and it is at the same time one of the most beautiful ant the most romantic canyon in Serbia. Ten monasteries are situated on the both banks of the river Morava as precious stones in the most attractive part of the canyon. They are: VAvedenje, Vaznesenje, Preobrazenje, Sretenje, Trojica, Blagovestenje, Ilinje, Jovanje, nikolje and Uspenije. These monasteries according to the known writing documents are of the end of 14 century (Blagovestenje erected in 1372) and from the beginning of 15 century (Nikolje erected in 1487).
According to aged tradition our language reformer Vuk Stefanovic Karadzic wrote these monasteries had glorious and historical part as a nationally protector during hard times of mediaeval Serbia. These famous monuments are under state protection!

The archaeological museum is situated in this old building. The exhibition consists of items found on the sites in and around Cacak, especially from the nearby archaeological site of Atenica. It covers all periods of Cacak history along with its prehistoric findings. The building itself dates back from the Obrenovic dinasty period (XIX centrury).

Cacak Gimnasium is the third oldest is Serbia and has a long history from the first half of XIX centrury. It has long been the most popular school for kids leaving the primary school to continue their education because the school offers high standard of education. Young people from this school are very successful afterwards during their university education and their final year of high school education in the USA. Many of them win prestigious scholarships for American universities.
