Near the town centre lie the remains of an old Turkish fortress Fetislam (feht-ul-islam), 'Gate of peace.'
The fortress consisted of Small and Big Towns. Small Town (Mali Grad) was built by Suleiman the Great in 1542, to be rebuilt over and over again. In the 18th and 19th centuries Big Town (Veliki Grad) was built.
There are 3 gates left-1 takes you to the bank of the Danube and the other 2 towards the land.

Lokal beach is realy fine. If you dont mind swiming in the Danube, it is the thing you can try in the summer. In this picture you can see two countries. Boy is in Serbia, and the other side of river Danube is Romania. So, the two-countries-shot!

In 20th sencery industrial gigant is erected. Hydro electric power plant "Djerdap". This big dam change the way of live in this little town.
It is great economic, engineering and social project. many people from Kladovo work in Djerdap. Erecting of plant improve the economy of the town.
It is very importen for citizen. And it is really the big impresion to see this dam.

Look across the river Danube!
You can see another country. Romania. When you are in Kladovo you can hear factory sirens from Romania anounces starts and finishes of working shift. You can also hear the train passing besides Danube, but on oposit site in Romania. It is realy close. But belive it or not, people from Kladovo need a visa to go to T.Severin (Romanian town on oposit site).

If you have time, you must spend one day to see Lepenski Vir. It is about 60km from Kladovo on the road to Belgrade. On the right side of the river Danube prahistoric settlement is found. It is almost 8000 years old. Lepenski Vir is the most importen monument of prahistoric age.

Long long ago this part of Serbia belonged to Rome empire.
Rome emperor Trajan have built some miracle construction here. He achived to build a bridge accros river Danube. It is not easy today with our technology, and in 3th century...It is miracle. On the Serbia side there are remains of that bridge.You can see on picture.
He also built a road through gulch. And there are Trayan`s table about that works. you can see it too on picture. Nowdays, becouse of rising water level, after dam erecting, table could be see only from water.

Ottomans erected this fortress in 1524, when they occupate this area. The name fetislam means the gate of peace. It is consist of two parts. Big town and little town. Little town was first built.It was military basis of that time. Big town is built later. Marble slabs areon the ports. They glorify Muhamed II
