Marko`s Rocks - Kind of Stonehenge

by belgradegirl Updated Jun 18, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Marko`s rocks is the group of HUGE rocks that form together a kind of gates or caves, and seem just to be thrown down to a green lawn by some enormous giant. Really amazing, especially as there`s no other big rocks nearby.
The way to Marko`s rocks is a romantic path through the wood, that goes downhill from the big parking lot area in front of the hotel complex Konaci- the centre of the tourist resort. It is an easy route, and it takes no more than 20 minutes to get there. You simply can`t resist the temptation to climb the rocks, but take care- the worst thing is, as always, getting DOWN!

    Picking blueberries

    Yael picking blueberries

Blueberries grow wild on the high slopes of Kopaonik. It is fun to pick them as you go and eat (resulting in red and blue lips...).
It is forbidden to pick them for industrial purposes (you will be amazed to see people who come with large containers and work hard to pick enormous amounts of blueberries... maybe this is "industrial purpose"? ;-)

    Cable to the top

At the top overlooking Suncani Vrhovi

You must go to see the highest peak of Kopaonik, called Pancicev Vrh (Pancic's Peak), some 2100 meters above sea level.
Take a ride on the cable-seats, for about 15 minutes, from Suncani Vrhovi to the peak, and enjoy the silence and views of Kopaonik.

    Walking trips in the woods

    The

The woods around Kopaonik are impressive (particularly to us who come from a barren land). Take a trip in the woods and enjoy the wild fauna and fresh frisky air.
I recommend taking a trip from a bend of the road up to Srebrnac. You will recognize it by a lowered bar at the entrance to the wood, preventing cars from entering too.
Go to the "Geyser", which is in fact a cartesian well further down the road, and if you feel like it go further to see the little shrine in the rock (Metoche).

My kids, after a walking-trip at Suncani Vrhovi

At some 1700 meters high lies the small resort village of Suncani Vrhovi ("Sunny peaks"). Hotels and apartments for visitors who come both in winter and in summer.
You can find there small cafes, restaurants, some shops and of course many other people...

Pancicev vrh, mackov rock ... those are the interesting thing for me and for you If you like hiking, like me.
Pancicev vrh is the highest top of Kopaonik. From it you can also see Kosovo.
Here you can come always -in spring, summer, fall and winter .The view is fabulous.

Mackov rock is somewhere in the wood . You can ask about it on the reception .
It is a big rock, about 3-4 meters high .
There is a legend about it.
It says that Marko Kraljevic (a hero from the time when the Turkish army was here)put this rock there in the wood to show his strengh .

This picture was taken from Pancicev top
