Krusevac Things to Do

  • Lazarica

The Court Church of Prince Lazar, built about 1375, is 1 of the most beautiful examples of the 'Morava School'.Prince Karadjordje had the bells made in 1812 and Prince Miloš Obrenovic in 1833.

  • Zgrada Opštine

This beautiful building in the centre of Kruševac is the Assembly Building (Zgrada opštine). It was designed by famous Serbian architect, Nikola Nestorovic. It was used as the County Office between 1898 and 1904.The interior's very beautiful, with staircases, corridors, columns. And you should definitely visit the Mosaic Room! You'll be impressed!

  • Narodni Muzej

Visit the National Museum (Narodni muzej) and admire its archaeological, historical, ethnographic, numismatic and other collections. The museum is situated in the old Grammar School building, built in 1863. It was founded in 1951.

  • Spomenik Kosovskim Junacima

The memorial to the Kosovo heroes (Spomenik kosovskim junacima) is a symbol of Kruševac. It's the work of a great Serbian sculptor, Djordje Jovanovic. The memorial was unveiled at Vidovdan 1904, during the celebration of 100th anniversary of the First Serbian Uprising, in the presence of King Petar I Karadjordjevic. The model of the Memorial was...

  • Spomenik Knezu Lazaru

A few steps away from the Lazarica church, there's this Prince Lazar Memorial ( Spomenik Knezu Lazaru). It was made in 1971 by sculptor Nebojša Mitric. If you take a closer look at the monument, you'll see different symbols from Prince Lazar's life.Prince Lazar Hrebeljanovic was a very powerful ruler in the 14th century. He died in the Kosovo battle...

  • Vrata

The 1st thing you'll notice when you come to the Lazarica Church will definitely be the doors. And they're really impressive, with wonderful details and all. The person who made them, Franz Winter, had 'golden' hands in my opinion. The doors were made of old oak trees cut down on Bagdala, a hill above Kruševac.

  • Lazareva Kula

Visit the old 18m high Lazar's Tower (Lazareva kula) from the 14th century in the centre of Kruševac. This is all that remained of King Lazar's fort.

  • Ikonostas

Today's iconostasis (ikonostas) in the Lazarica Church was made in 1833, after the liberation from the Turks.

  • Mošti Kneza Lazara

When you enter the Lazarica Church and to the left, you'll find this sarcophagus with the remains of Prince Lazar (1329-1389).

Vidovdan's the most important Christian festival for the town of Kruševac. Every year on 28 June, a commemorative service is held in the church of Lazarica for the heroes who died in the Kosovo battle and for all other Serbian warriors killed in liberation wars.

Krusevac Off The Beaten Path

  • Manastir Naupare

13km from Kruševac, on the right bank of the Rasina River, in the really exceptional surroundings, there's yet another Prince Lazar's endowment, Manastir Naupare (the Naupare Convent). That's why the building's similar to the Lazarica Church, but built only a little earlier. It was reconstructed several times. It used to be a monastery (until 1950),...

  • Naupare

Some 13km from Kruševac there's this lovely village of Naupare, a sort of open-air museum with typical Serbian old houses.Every June children from our country and abroad come here to take part in the Art Colony 'Biberce.'

  • Rozete

Rose-windows (rozete) above the doors and on the western facade of the Naupare Convent are well worth seeing !
