Pokajnica Things to Do
Pokajnica church is completely made of logs in 1818. It was built by Vujica Vulicevic , as a sign of regret for killing Karadjordje. Pokajnica in Serbian means Place for Regret.
Karadjordje , real name Djordje Petrovic ( 1768-1817) was the leader of First Serbian Rebellion against Turkish invaders in 1804.He was killed by the order of Milos Obrenovic and his head was sent to Turkish Sultan as a proof of Milos’s loyalty . Heads of those not loyal to the Sultan, were taken to the Sultan in honey ( giak ) and there they would put them on wooden sticks in public , so everyone could see them , and get scared of what could happened to them ...More about Karadjordje coming soon in my Monastery T ‘ log.
This is how the church looks from the inside, this is the altar . And those are icons Christ and various saints arround it. people usually kiss the icon and leave some money there for the church.Related to:

All medieval Serbian churches and monasteries were founded by Serbian rulers and other nobles. There is no data about Monastery Kopoirn, so even now we don’t know who the founder of this monastery was. So, the story is that Despot Stefan Lazarevic is founder of this beautiful place .Stefan Lazarevic was son of Princes Milica and Serbian ruler Prince Lazar ( killed in a battle of Kosovo in 1389).
