    Regional park Gornje Podunavlje

At about 20 km away from Sombor is regional park “Gornje Podunavlje” – area of extreme importance because of it’s unique natural values and living world. It was established in 1982 at the area of 9996 ha which is next to the left bank of river Danube
-it is one of the last big oases of swampy wood complexes (and in whole area there are different ecosystems: watery, pondish, swampy, forest,…).
Considering trees the most representative are: white willow, black poplar, white poplar, English oak….As for animals there are about 50 mammal species (and on the top stands a deer), 230 different species of birds (Whitetail eagle, Black stork, Big cormorant, wild ducks, geese), 50 freshwater species (carp, catfish, pike, pike – perch,…)
Bird watching and safari can be arranged from 15th May to 15th August, and the rest of the period is hunting season and visits are mostly not allowed.
