Serbian Orthodox church (built from 1837 to 1844) is dedicated to Virgin Mary and replaced an older church that was built on the same place. In the churchyard and also on outer church walls you could see some old sculptures and plaques that remain from that older structure. As you can see on the photo style is mixed, provincial baroque with elements of Serbian traditional styles and influences from Fruska Gora monasteries. Inside are many valuable paintings from 18. and 19. century. The most important one is picture of St. Michael from 1856. In front of that picture conspirators against Serbian king Aleksandar Obenovic swear that they will kick him from the throne. That was happen… few months later, King Aleksandar and Queen Draga was murdered and it was end of Obrenovic dynasty and chance for Karadjordjevic dynasty to get throne of Serbia again.
Church also keep some other valuable religious items as hand written gospel from L’vov (Ukraine) and cross that was gift of Russian Czar Nikolai I.
There is also part of the Holly body of St. Paraskeva (St. Petka).

pet glava, Sremska Kamenica

One time there was many mythical sculptures in the park but only few of them remain and they also need some serious reconstruction. The most famous are so-called “Five heads” on “hill of love” that represent five roman-style heads on high pillars. That place from distance you could see on the photo on intro page.

When palace was finished he hired gardeners to transform forest park that existed on that place into an English-type scenic park. Today place is seat of hydrometeorological centre for the region. Very interesting is inner yard of palace but that could be visited only on special occasions.

Present Catholic church was building in 19. century on the place of older churches that there already existed. Church is simply, small and elegant and mixes of neo-baroque (tower) and classicism. There is also nice garden in the yard.

In Sremska Kamenica you could find some lovely family houses from 18. century constructed in provincial baroque style as these two houses close to orthodox churches are. Well, that houses are still private family houses so you could admire them only outside. On that yellow house on the photo is inscription that house was built in 1796.
