Between 4500 and 3500 years before our age a large settlement of Danubean agriculturists developed the area of today's Belgrade at the sight of Vinča, a metropolis of one of the most glittering cultures of the European prehistory. The inhabitants of prehistoric Vinča and their fellow tribesman in Banat, Pomoravlje and Kosovo and Metohija had established a very specific culture during the earlier stone age called VINČAN CULTURE which dominated all of middle and southeastern Europe. Vinča and some other Neolite settlements in the vicinity of Vršac (Potporanj), Kragujevac (Grivac, Divostin), Kosovska Mitrovica (Valac) and Priština (Predionica) became big religious centers and focal points for art and had a crucial influence on the painting culture of all Neolite settlements of middle and southeastern Europe. Hundreds of thousands of clay figures and ritual vases found in...

Oplenac is the "capital" of Serbian royal family. This is whee they come from and where they are buried ina mausoleum. The church of St. George, along with the Karadjordjevic dynasty mausoleum, were built on the peak of Mali Oplenac. Situated on the slopes of the same hill was the capital of Serbia, Topola, a small town between Belgrade and Kragujevac (restored in the nineteenth century) . The two toponymes are not confused with one another in visitors' memories, but the latter outshone the tradition and the significance of the town, as visitors mainly come to see Oplenac and only then is the mutual past of the town and the mausoleum remembered. Topola became a place of historical significance during the Serbian Uprising in 1804. Its leader, Karadjordje Petrović, born nearby, built a fortified town with towers and a church. Thanks to neglect and the carelessness of the new...

Partizanske Vode is a tourist resort on Mount Zlatibor, in the western part of Serbia. It is one of the most popular resorts in Serbia. Situated at an altitude of just over 1.000 meters, Partizanske Vode is also a climatic resort, characterised by a cool mountain climate, clean air, long periods of sunshine during the summer and a heavy snow cover in winter. Tourist facilities include modern hotels, holiday centers and cottages, sports grounds and ski-lifts.It is also famous as a medical "spa" for treating thyroid gland disorders. If you want to see my Zlatibor page, click HERE!

In the close vicinity of Subotica, there is lake Palić, rather big and beautiful lake which we call Panonian sea. :-) It is the most popular holiday resort for people of Vojvodina, with many modern facilities, sports centers, tourist attractions, wonderful walking areas, beautiful woods, great architecture and many cultural events. It is a homeplace of Palić film festival.

A beautiful multicultural town in the very north of Serbia, on the border with Hungary. Besides being extremely beautiful, amazing architecture, full of wonderful green, parks and woods, it is a place of many festivals and cultural events.Lake Palić is very close, just some minutes by car.

My personal favourite city in Serbia. Very friendly people, cozy atmosphere, beautiful city, long history, great culture and tradition... A typical panonian plain town, with beautiful Petrovaradin fortress, home to EXIT summer festival... A bliss! please see all photos of this tip!If you want to see my Novi Sad page, click HERE!

The ancient Roman town of Naissus, present-day Niš, was an important frontier fortress of the Roman Empire. It was here that the Emperor Constantine was born. A superb bronze head of the Emperor, discovered in Niš, is now in the National Museum in Belgrade. The remains of a Roman summer resort, Mediana, with the foundations of villas, mosaics and marble figures, have been unearthed in the vicinity of Niš. A 6th century Byzantine tomb, discovered in the city, includes well-preserved frescoes with zoomorphic and floral motifs. There is also a horrific monument, Ćele Kula (Scull Tower), a tower that Turks made of heads of decapitated Serbs after the battle of Čegar.(see all 5 photos attached please!)If you want to see my Niš page, click HERE
