DUI draconian laws: front passenger can't drink

Little quiz. What number is greater:a) the total number of civil war/NATO campaign victims on all sides in entire ex-Yugoslavia during infamous 1998-1999 years b) the number of people who died in traffic accidents last 2 years in SerbiaYou guessed correctly. Recently it was announced, soon the fines will be increased tenfold (see also Hungary). There will be a unique Serbian "innovation": the foreign driver's license WILL be ruined by the police and/or the court by punching it through and writing on the IDL (international driver's license). No other country does the invalidating the foreign DL (yet). The DUI limit is 0.05%, but will presumably drop soon to ZERO as it did in Croatia and Romania. It was always zero in Hungary.An other oddity: the same DUI limit applies to both driver and front passenger. Ouch.

The so-called "national" restaurants in Belgrade do roaring business, catering to people looking for a classy, old world atmosphere, with lots of wooden beams, bumbling penguin waiters and live musicians. Don't even dream of having a quick meal here - dining in here is a celebration of the best things in life: women, wine, music, smoke and grease. After observing tables being surrounded by podgy musicians, leaving the embarrassed diners wondering whether to ignore them, to stare or softly sing or nod along, you may want to opt for an insurmountable table in a corner. Vegetarians, take cover!If you don't have to, don't declare that. Being vegetarian here is like being homosexual. I can't think of any danger here, unless NATO decide overnight to drop a few bombs while you are visiting. You realy never know with NATO, they may get offended with a new hairstyle of our President and, well, you know what follows in that ( for NATO members very dangerous) situation....

Bad roads

The roads in central and southern Serbia are dreadful, and badly marked. The signs are often destroyed, and there might be holes on the road. The traffic infrastructure is pathetic, and there is only one large motorway, going from Belgrade to Niš and further to Skopje, Macedonia. Another one goes from Belgrade towards Zagreb, Croatia. Other roads are a total disaster!

As in any country in the world you should be careful, but don’t let that stop you from enjoying yourself … Be careful where you leave your car, do not park in dark streets, and do not leave a car unlocked! You better use official parking space, you have to pay for it, but it is not much … Speed limits are 120kph (75mph) on highways and 100kph (62mph) on other roads,in inhabited places 60 kph or lower . Road signs may be poorly marked.And watch out of the holes on roads ..
