  • Long Wait At Hungarian Border

We were traveling from Poland to Greece by bus, and were crossing in Röszke. We arrived at the border at 12 AM. I figured that late, it would be almost empty, but it wasn't. We were stuck there for 3.5 hours. Everyone wanted to go to sleep, but couldn't because we didn't know when the border guard was gonna come in to take our documents. We were...

  • DRIVING BETWEEN SERBIA AND KOSOVO

I decided I would drive through north-east Kosovo, cut the corner in Montenegro and drive into another entry point in Kosovo. My map in my branded Travel Guide looked like that would work. It didn’t! I ended at a very tense border going into Serbia. Later a border between Kosovo and Serbia that has seen military action, closures and instant rule...

  • Vegeterians, take cover!

Vegetarians, take cover!Serbian cuisine is synonym to sinking your teeth into meat. Lots of it. The so-called "national" restaurants in Belgrade do roaring business, catering to people looking for a classy, old world atmosphere, with lots of wooden beams, bumbling penguin waiters and live musicians. Don't even dream of having a quick meal here -...

  • Passing across a street

Passing across a street out of "zebra" or on the red traffic light is our national sport. Don't do that. It's very dangerous and we are very well trained.

  • NATO bombing

I can't think of any danger here, unless NATO decide overnight to drop a few bombs while you are visiting. You realy never know with NATO, they may get offended with a new hairstyle of our President and, well, you know what follows in that ( for NATO members very dangerous) situation....

  • Bad roads

The roads in central and southern Serbia are dreadful, and badly marked. The signs are often destroyed, and there might be holes on the road. The traffic infrastructure is pathetic, and there is only one large motorway, going from Belgrade to Niš and further to Skopje, Macedonia. Another one goes from Belgrade towards Zagreb, Croatia. Other roads...

  • No visa needed anymore to enter Serbia

Back in May 2003 I had to pay the unreasonable high amount of 57 Euros to get a tourist visa. When I returned in October no visa was needed anymore. Really good news.

  • As in any country in the world...

As in any country in the world you should be careful, but don’t let that stop you from enjoying yourself … Be careful where you leave your car, do not park in dark streets, and do not leave a car unlocked!
