ZEMUN, THOUGH I SUPPOSE OFFICIALLY A PART OF BELGRADE, IS A LITTLE LIKE A DIFFERENT WORLD. IT IS MUCH MORE LAID BACK AND EASY FOR LIVING THAN IS THE HUSTLE AND BUSTLE OF THE OLD CITY.
THIS PICTURE WAS TAKEN AT NIGHT IN LATE JANUARY OF LAST YEAR.
THOUGH I FIRMLY DESPISE WINTER, AND LOVE THE 95 DEGREE FARENHEIT (30+ C.) TEMPERATURES OF SUMMER... I COULD NOT DENY THE BEAUTY OF THIS NIGHT.

APOTEKA (PHARMACY) ON PRVOMAJSKA
THIS IS A LITTLE OFF OF THE BEATEN PATH IN ZEMUN, BUT NOT REALLY. MANY PEOPLE LIKE TO CONCENTRATE ON THE PART OF ZEMUN ON THE RIVER DANUBE CALLED "ZEMUNSKI KEJ"... IT IS THE AREA THAT HAS MORE CLUBS AND OUTDOOR FLOATING CAFES. TRUTH BE TOLD, IT WAS JUST TOO DAMN COLD TO BE WALKING ALONG THE DANUBE FOR MOST OF THE TIME WHEN I WAS THERE LAST... SO SADLY I DON'T HAVE MANY FOTOS... SORRY. HOWEVER, IF YOU WANT TO SEE SOME NICE FOTOS OF ZEMUN IN THE SUMMER THEY ARE READILY AVAILABLE HERE ON VT.

Fenek monastery is in nearby village Boljevci (about 20 km far away from Zemun) and it was founded by the members of serbian despotic family Brankovic, probably in XV century. Todays church was built in 1797 in baroque style and dedicated to Sveta Petka. Iconostasis in it was made by piltor Aksentije Markovic and painter Petar Radosavljevic and the wall paintings are painted by Dimitrije Petrovic. After failure of the first serbian mutiny in the monastery stayed Karadjordje and the others mutiny leaders, and the significant role monastery Fenek had in the preparation of the second serbian mutiny. Monastery endured great destruction in both World Wars and only recently it was reconstructed and rebuilt.

Home Museum of Zemun was founded in 1954. It is located in an edifice, which used to be a residence of the famous Spirta noble family. The Museum has a regular display showing the prosperous past of Zemun, and organizes occasional expert and thematic exhibitions, lectures, promotions and music manifestations.
The regular Museum exhibition “7.000 years of Zemun” displays the Zemun past, from the time of its settlement, in the BC 6th millennium, to the present day. A part of the exhibition covers objects from the Latin period (BC 3rd-1st century) and the Roman domination.
