Redibis (Bevagna): Maybe the best restaurant in Italy - Redibis

by Trekki

So how did I discover this maybe best restaurant of Italy or even Europe? I am grateful to British journalist Patricia Clough, who wrote the book Gebrauchsanweisung Umbrien in this special series of “operating instruction” book series of German Pieper Publishing. In one chapter she wrote about the Slow Food movement and mentions that Filippo Artioli , the young chef of Redibis in Bevagna, collects all he wants to use for the evening dishes in the surrounding meadows and forests. I was thrilled to see that Bevagna is not far away from where I wanted to base myself during the second half of my trip and as soon as I was there (in Poggio dei Pettirossi), I went to town to find Redibis. This wasn’t easy, since it is tucked away in a side street, but near Hotel L’Orto degli Angeli as I realised then. As usual in Italy, the earliest time to book a table is 8 p.m. I arrived early and was seated...

Peterson's Krog, Käringön, west coast: Seafood heaven in Sweden

by Trekki

Oh well…. Peterson’s Krog is such an excellent restaurant, it is… the best! However, I can only write prosa here and am not able to give prices, because.. yes, because my visit on Käringön and dinner at Peterson’s Krog was my birthday gift from dear Simone and Åke. They could not have selected a better one, and to be precise no one but them could have selected a better one than the island and this restaurant, because it was special. All was special. The restaurant itself is located at Käringön’s harbour, and the interior decoration is very pleasant, very pretty with little maritime things here and there. They divided the surface into several little rooms, which makes it even more intimate to dine here. And yes, it is dining (not merely eating). Their dishes… oh my god, it was pure seafood heaven! The starters consisted of three different fish in different preparation: sill (herring),...

SERVAS: THE (2ND) BEST 24 HOUR AIRPORT RESTAURANT

by DAO

After my beloved Lido Restaurant in Riga (Latvia) Airport , Servas is a great place fro hot, fresh meat and cold beer. Servas is by far, the best 24 hour/7 days a week restaurant inside Vienna Airport. OK. It’s the only 24 hour restaurant. How is it? Flaming marvellous! Where else can you get a good tasting mixed grill plate of meats and a cold Weiss Beer at 1am after a long day of travel? Here that’s where! This is essentially a Truck Stop Diner. If you think I am joking, just look at some of the clientele. How do you think they get all the supplies to the airport at night? Like any good Truck Stop the customers are fat because the food is actually good. It’s good. I enjoyed my food, the service and my beer(s). At night everything is made to order. No old saggy fries here! Hot fresh food. Servas is actually Italian, but here they serve Austrian food. The menu is fairly extensive given...

AUSTRIA: Bad Fischau: A Hundertwasser - restaurant south of Vienna

by globetrott

You will find quite a lot of places in Europe, where Friedensreich Hundertwasser was able to show his very special ideas about architecture.Bad Fischau is a small spa and also a restaurant along the highway A2, south of Vienna. Once there used to be an ugly restaurant and Friedensreich Hundertwasser was asked to decorate it a bit in his very own style. And that is what happened here: The ugly building with large windows and a lot of naked concrete dating back to the early 1950s looks nice and interesting all of a sudden thanks to Hundertwassers architecture.Unlike many other restaurants along the highways in Austria, this one is an italian restaurant, and you will be served by the waiters and compose your own salads in the salad-bar.Prices are average and the food was very good, fast and friendly service and always when I get there, its almost empty, maybe this place is simply much too...

Restaurant Engel: Goethe stayed here - Why dont you as well ?

by globetrott

Restaurant Engel in Kuessnacht am Rigi is a place I can highly recommend for various reasons : First of all it is a lovely half-timbered house with a long history dating back to the 14th century. It was also the place, where the "Eidgenossen" had their meeting first in 1424 and afterwards several times again untill 1712 A.D., so it was some sort of a "parliament" of the new union of the swiss counties (Kantone). In October 7th, 1797 Johann Wolfgang von Goethe spent the night in the hotel.Take a look at my pictures , this hotel has a really beautiful architecture and great decorations under the roof ! Restaurant Engel is a really beautiful old wooden building with cosy hotel-rooms and a great restaurant, with quite high prices. In general eating in a restaurant is quite expensive in Switzerland, one of the cheapest dishes I found on the menu was a porc-Cordon-bleu with french fries and...

Peppe's pizza : topping all over Norway: P is for Peppe's pizza (try saying that quickly)

by sourbugger

Quality pizza is not something that you would immediately associate with Norway, but this Norwegian chain has high standards. The decor of their restaurants is somewhat varaible. The one in the central station (in Oslo) is nothing special whilst the one opp. the main station is woody and welcoming. At around 300KR for a pizza, it is expensive by European standards, but these enormous pizzas should reasonably fill two adults. The topping seems plentiful and fresh.Nice atmosphere, and attractive waitresses. If only the beer was cheap I could live here.Their slogan roughly translates as (according to my mate) : The most fun you can have with your friends........I could make a comment, but i'll refrain from doing so..

Cafe Laville: V is for Venice (the little one in London)

by sourbugger

This could be Rotterdam, Amsterdam or Rome... or little venice in London The setting of this cafe on the Edgware road is unmissable, as it is perched on a bridge over the Regent's canal near little Venice. The place has a distinctly continental flavour - but at London Prices. Scambled egg on toast will set you back nearly 4 quid, and a glass of champers a fiver. The view along the stretch of canal looking towards little venice is however worth the extra few bob involved.Lunches looked light and well prepared, witha good range of other snacks - panini, salads , pasta and omelettes all available.

ANATOLIAN FLAME: TOP TURKISH !

by DAO

I booked a table at the Anatolian Flame on the website Toptable . The reason I chose it was my first choice, near work, refused to honour a food deal. So I booked this restaurant, very last minute, because it was near my hotel. Wow am I glad I did! Otherwise I would have never discovered this fantastic little eatery. Just look for reviews of this place on many websites. They get top marks 100% of the time for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I cannot recommend them enough. After a long and bad day I was greeted outside by large flames and a nice look exterior. Stepping inside I was warmly greeted by my waitress and made to feel welcome. My starter was hummus with fresh bread. What a delight! The best hummus I have ever had in any restaurant. It tasted great, was not covered in oil and was accompanied with yogurt and a mildly spicy sort of salsa. I ordered extra bread just to enjoy this more....
