Feel like an intellectual: D is for Dublin...in a favorite hang out

by sourbugger

The winding stair used to be a bookshop with a small cafe where you could brouse books off the shelves whilst you sipped. Now it is the other way round. The place actually does have a winding stair, and perhaps more accurately a rickety staircase. The place has a slightly musty feel to it and is inhabited by some students and other 'intellectual' types. No one is bothered if you sit and read a book all day there.Between the shelving are photographs of pensive looking Irish intelligensia of yesteryear, paintings and old pages from books stuck to the walls. The place is topped off with a rather eclectic taste in music.Daytime only The place serves mainly crepes, ciabattaas and salads. Nothing is outstanding but the portions are fair and well presented. What I like are the names given to the sandwiches / ciabatta e.g-Watership down - saladBram Stoker - Garlic salami & saladOld man and the...

MA PETITE AUGERGE: BAR\RESTAURANT---CASTELLANE, FRANCE

by LoriPori

While we were staying here in Castellane , we went out for dinner at the MA PETITE AUBERGE. From what I can remember, the restaurant was in a garden setting with casual patio tables. I still have the bill in my scrapbook and the meals for four persons came to 218 French francs (1 franc =.20 or $43.60CDN).

Il Cantastorie Ristorante: Near the Duomo

Tratorria Rivetta in Venice: avoid this place

by travelkitty

this seemed like a nice local place, and was recommended by our hotel - however! we were ignored without menus for about 15 minutes, then bread and menus were thrown on the table. the bread was frozen. our order was taken and we waited 45 minutes for a plate of pasta and couldn't get the waiter's attention to give us any cheese for it. after waitng another 45 minutes for the pizza we had ordered, we left. the whole time was spent listening to the owner/manager argue loudly with another customer. a very unpleasant experience. nothing - the pasta wasn't even ordinary.
