Situated in the South-Eastern part of Romania, where old and important trade roads cross, the county is quite near by the Black Sea, and at the confluence of three rivers: Danube, Siret and Prut.The main form of relief is the plain which is an important element of the climate. This is a temperate one with a temperature of 21.7 Celsius degrees (counted in the last 60 years) in July and warm winters with a medium temperature of minus 3 Celsius degrees.The municipality of Galati is the capital city of this county. It seams to be a three storeyed amphitheater.The interested tourist is able to visit the Holy Virgin fortress-church, a valuable Romanian medieval architectural monument built by Vasile Lupu in 1674, the University in Galati, the Townhall of Galati built in 1911 by arch. Ion Mincu, the Art Museum and History Museum, Memorial House of Alexandru loan Cuza, ruler of the Union from 1859, the Episcopal Church of the Lower Danube, the River Station and the NAVROM headquarters in Galati built by Anghel Saligny, the Theatre in Galati and V.A. Urechea Library. Here there are also a lot of statues dedicated to historic moments or cultural and social-political Romanian personalities: the statues of Alexandru loan Cuza placed in front of the Public Garden, made by Romanian sculptor Ion Jalea, the statue of Mihai Eminescu in the Central Park, made in 1911 by sculptor Frederic Storck, statue of Costache Negri, former chief magistrate of Galati in 1851-1853; the Dockers Monument.The county has a good tourist place making easier the way of the tourists to the Danube Delta and to the seaside of the Black Sea, or to the spas in Moldavia and to the Oriental Carpathians.The names of some vineyards as Ivesti, Nicoresti, Bujoru and their wines are famous abroad. Picturesque landscapes are offered by the Valleys of Danube, Prut and Siret rivers, as well as the lakes of Brates, Balta Catusa. Here tourists can fish or practice aquatic sports. The nature lovers are able to walk in century-old forests from Buciumeni, Adam and Vule with a possibility of hunting too. Other points of tourist interest are the cultural and historic monuments in this county: 'Costache Negri' Memorial House situated in his village with a same name where the revolutionists from Moldavia and Wallachia gathered to organized the Revolution from 1848 as well as the Union of the two Romanian Lands.In the Roscani forest there is a monument of Voivode loan Voda cel Cumplit who died here in 1574. Near by the municipality of Tecuci, at Brahisesti, there are the ruins of a Geto-Dacian fortress dating back from the IV-III century B.C. The national modernized and county roads make easy to travel to the tourists points of attraction.
