apartment block across the street from my pension

Favorite thing: Romania obviously isn't totally replete with pleasant countryside homes and lovely Gothic and Baroque city buildings. A fairly sizeable portion of the population lives in buildings like this. It's definitely an important patch in the quilt of contrasts that make this country so interesting.

Favorite thing: You're bound to see some interesting sights if you walk through Gura Humorului and to Voronet Monastery. The road to the monastery is lined with many interesting looking homes as well as various animals.

Gura Humorului schoolyard

Favorite thing: Despite the beautifully painted monasteries and lush surrounding countryside, Gura Humorului shows many scars and decay from Romania's brutal Communist dictatorship.

Pesky cow! Got my rhodedendrons last year!

Favorite thing: You're likely to see lots of large unattended animals, such as cows and horses wandering the streets of Gura Humorului and the road to Voronet Monastery.

house on road to Voronet

Favorite thing: These rustic looking homes have a very unique style. Almost every house on the road up to Voronet Monastery had some sort of Christian shrine in front of it as well.

forget a washing machine, let's get a fancy gutter

Favorite thing: Every house seemed to pay extra special attention to detail when it came to the design of gutters.
