Ea incorporeaza in decoratii si arhitectura elemente maure.
Favorite thing: In 1870, the Jewish community in Oradea split up into the orthodox and the congregational (neologian) communities. The latter decided to build its own synagogue. The first brick in the construction was laid in 1877. The construction was finished on 24 September, 1878. The city hall's main engineer Busch David designed the construction plans of the synagogue. The entreprenneur in charge of carrying out the construction was Rimánóczy Kálmán, Sr. The inner paintings in moorish style come from the brush of Horovitz Mór from Kosice.
Constructia imbina stilurile bizantin, baroc tirziu si neoclasicist.
Favorite thing: The plans of the house were designed by two architects from Budapest, Bálint Zoltán and Jámbor Lajos. Back in those days, the year 1902 to be more precise, it was rumored the building would be the first to incorporate the Art Nouveau style. The building was finished in 1903. The owners of the building were vintagers, hence the the grapes in the basrelief ornaments.
Favorite thing: Biserica romano-catolica "Maica Indurerata" a fost construita intre anii 1741-1766 conform planurilor calugarului paulin Vépi Maté. Socant, biserica a fost folosita ca depozit dupa desfiintarea ordinului in anul 1786, dar in anul 1808 ea a trecut in administrarea Ordinului premonstratens
There are quite a few internet cafe's in Oradea. I did visit 2 myself but saw a third one mentioned..
You can find an internet cafe annex computer game-place in Espicop Roman Ciorogariu just of the Calea Republicii. At first i thought i was completely at the wrong place and trying to invade someones private property.. Luckily i didn't and it turned out to be the right place after all..
Another one you can find on Menumorut. More easy to spot. And the connection wasn't to bad either.
In both places it was fun to find out that english wasn't that well spoken. In the second place we had quite some confusion (and fun) with 15.000 and 50.000 lei..It turned out that i had to pay 15.000 lei (around 40 eurocents) after all (after almost everybody else in the place got involved.. ). Not sure whether that was for half an hour or an hour. My guess is for an hour since i'm sur i couldn't limit myself to just half an hour .. But i might be completely mistaken..
In Oradea (and probably throughout the region) you'll find that churches are constantly open. At least during the day. And many people use the churches all thourgh the day. Myself being from the Netherlands where churches nowadays are usually locked except for times of services, i found it fascinating to see that you could walk into a church here at any time during the day.. And that both young and old do so..
The photo of this statue was taken in the small garden outside the church that is situated on the calea republicii..
The synagoge in Oradea is no longer in use and has a very unkept look. Somewhere in the past decades the use of this synagoge was abolished and the current state it is in is so bad it isn't even open anymore. Very unfortunate since it looks like a very intriguing building.
And while all churches are renovated, this synagoge isn't high on the list of buildings to keep. So it looks a bit forlorn alongside the river
When you want to visit this synagoge you can do so daily between 11-13 and 14-17. There is an old man who will let you in to see it.
Fondest memory: When i went to see this synagoge i wanted to see if there was some sort of back entrance. So i followed the row of houses that is build next to the synagoge. And from the corner of my eye i thought i saw a car parked inside the house.. so i checked again.. and yes, more then one. Behind the facade of several normal looking houses was a car dealers shop..
At the moment there is still no tourist information agency in Oradea. And getting hold of what there is to see and do is rather difficult. People start direction you straight out of Oradea. The couple of times i asked the first thing people came up with was visiting Baile Felix, a rather famous Spa. Which made me wonder since Oradea has quite a lot to offer as well.
In the bookshop ' Mihai Eminescu' in Poynar House (Piata Regele Ferdinand, opposite Calea Republicii) you can buy a leaflet with information on several of the important buildings in Oradea and a small but indispensible streetmap. All in english so highly usefull
Fondest memory: Updated 2005: The bookstore no longer exists here. But there are other bookstores that have the same or similar information. So check them out. There is a big one in Republicii and a smaller bookstore in the Crisul stores. There are more but these are easy to find.
You can find interesting information about Oradea on the folliwing:

(risete) Catedrala a fost construita in stil baroc clasicizant.

Fondest memory: Finally, in 1771 the Austro-Hungarian monarch Maria Theresa, the son of Archduke Joseph, Crown Prince visited to be reconciled with the facility, which was not originally created to support. In 1773 the palace burned down in the wake of a mysterious fire, but the following are appointed bishop erected immediately according to the original plans.

The ethnographic section is probably the most western Transylvanian folk art exhibition, a huge collection of folk costumes, peasant use items, crockery and dyed Easter eggs.
The church was established in 1996 to legally recapture the bishop's palace. Although the museum agreed elköltöztetésérõl, but failed to solve the problem by the end of 2010.
the people, easy to get around. This really is a nice place to use as a base camp during your travels to Transylvania.
Fondest memory: Just watching the people enjoy life no matter how hard it is. It really puts things in line for you by visiting.
