Every friday there is an english club meeting from 18.00 till 20.00 in the Ady Endre school which is just behind the state theater. Anybody who is interested can walk in. I got an invitation to drop by via VT-member Gabor1965 and so i did. And it turned out to be much fun. Because it is not just the hours they spend discussing topics so they can practise their english. Afterwards most people join in for a bit or something to drink at a pizzaria. And many times a year there are other activities. Like the yearly christmas party and many trips into the country side (see this page for pictures of the trip i made with them to Rachitele in february2005)
So if you have time, spend some of it with the members of the english club.

Ady Endre a trait si creat in Oradea vreme de vreo patru ani. In rastimpul acela el a iubit foarte mult femei de tot felul. Acestea l-au iubit si ele la rindul lor. In final, iubirea i s-a dovedit fatala.

I had heard of this place but finally just before the new year i was actually up here. Freaking cold but very worthwhile. It isn't easy to find your way up here. You can go by foot, but easier is by car. It isn't indicated at all but if you ask people for Ciuperca you should be able to make it up here because everybody knows about it.
On top there is a bar with a terrace but in wintertime it was way to cold to sit outside. The bar is open but it isn't the most attractive place even though it has been done up recently.
The picture is very blurry but the one that came out right was just way to boring...

This old curch that was planned by Szenczy Istvan in 1772 is one of the oldest buildings on the beautiful Republici boulevard. The building also operates as a high school that called after the famous poet Ady Endre.
Today the building need a lot of renovation.
My favorite thing about it its the night view, it is lighted in a special way... i saw it a lot from my hotel window by night... :))

The Fortress, in its present form, was built between 1570 and 1618 by the Italian architects Giovanni Andrea Gromo, Domenico Ridolfini da Camerino, Ottavio Baldigara and Simone Genga. Today, it is the best-preserved fortress in the Italian Renaissance style of Central Europe.

Once Oradea has been a city with a big, prosperous jewish community but after the second World War most of them died or left the city. Today in all the county of bihor living just about 700-900 jews.
Oradea has 3 synagogues (just 1 in use i think) and the centeral one is very impressive and located left to the City Hall and to the Black Eagle. The building is in a very poor condition and its another thing that symbolize the great community that lived there and now is gone.
Now there is an old friendly man who keeps the bulding from thives and hooligans, If you want he can make you a little tour inside the synagogue... he is doing it for free but you should give him some money (not much... somthing between 50000-100000 lei) so he can continue keep the remarkable place. Just watch out when you going into the yard of the synagogue because there are 2 dangerous dogs that tied but are Staying near the door to the synagouge itself, but dont worry, if you will tell the old man you just visiting the place they will do to you bo harm.
