There are many reasons to visit the Western Carpathians and spend at least one week here:
- You can visit cities and villages (the countryside) that offer a true experience. With my help, you can build a real Eastern Europe picture: Pigs on the main street of the village (in Transylvania there are many German villages), markets that are a tradition to themselves, a lot of entertainment and fun with Romanian music bands (the music industry is at a very high level) etc. Our main headquarters is Oradea, where you can find comfortable hotels ( 3, 4 starred hotels), thermal-baths and spas at Bãile Felix and a variety of entertaining places.
- The Western Carpathians (Apuseni Mountains) are unique not only in Romania, but in the whole Europe, not necessarily due to their high peaks, but because of their wonderful lime formations with uncountable caves, Dolinas and Poljes.
However, everything remained unbuilt, and that brings a unique beauty with itself. (for example you can observe traditional animal breeding or lime burning).
- The hospitality of the people.

Both in the city and near to the city you have the possibility to drop into nice, warm water. Inside the city you can find two easily accessible thermal spa resorts: Strandul Iosia, Strandul Municipal. You can enter them pretty cheaply and you can find both cold and warm water, relaxation, recreation and activity. Outside the city there is a more famous spa resort, called Baile Felix. It lies at about 4 km distance from Nagyvárad/Oradea. Here you can find more hotels, several bath places and a brand new aquapark. Of course the prices here are higher than in the city, though not too high for a traveler from west. This small resort lies near the woods, so after bathing you can take a walk there and eat dinner at a fancy hotel or restaurant.

Friday nights they have an English Speaking Club that meets. All meetings take place at the Ady Endre High School near the Theatre and is easy to find. This is a nice group of people who like to polish up on their English and it is a great way to make friends during your stay. They are happy to except you into the meeting and it usually ends at a local bar :-)

Ask around for Public Events such as Concerts and Festivals. Several times during my visit they had outdoor events happening that can be fun and cheap. great place for people watching, local food and music. I was at a very nice Hungarian Festival at the Fortress. had a great time and found a couple who made puppets to sell....great stuff!

During your travels, be sure to take a moment to visit Felix while staying in Oradea. Felix is about a ten minute cab ride from city center and is well worth the trip. I have spent many days here soaking up the wonderful mineral water, drinking a cool beer and even getting a very nice massage. Expect to spend $20 - $25 per person for a nice afternoon. They have private changing rooms and a clothing check in where you will get a number in order to pick up your clothes at the end of your stay. I received a very relaxing massage for $10 and tipped $4. Do not be stingy here...this is a great time at a fraction of the cost in USA. Tip well when you receive great service...do not flash your money but appreciate the service. You will find several baths here and the one most commonly used by Romanians is the Apollo. There are higher priced baths that I have visited, but I still enjoy Apollo. If you go midday it is very slow and relaxing with not a lot of children. Weekends tend to be alittle more family friendly. In the Summer they also have a city pool that can be fun. You will also find an outside city pool in Oradea not to far from the Hotel Continental.
