Most of Brasov's churches are listed in guide books, but for us it wasn't always easy to find at least basic details about the less known churches. Information about most of the churches which we visited can be found under my "Things to do" tips. Other churches we had a look at include the following ones: The silver domed Romanian Orthodox church Buna Vestire is located at Nicolae Iorga street, just next to the northern end of the Central Park "Nicolae Titulescu" (Photo 1 and 2). The small Romanian Orthodox church Cuvioasa Paraschiva is surrounded by a cemetery and can be found at Bicazului Street (Photo 3). A German Protestant Church with an adjacent cemetery is situated in a courtyard of Prundului street. Access is only possible through a metal door from the street (Photo 4). Hidden in a courtyard of the Gh. Baritiu Street is the Romanian Orthodox church Sf. Treime which was built in the late 18th century (Photo 5). Leave a Comment

The Tampa Mountain (Muntele Tampa) is part of the Eastern Carpathians and almost completely surrounded by the city of Brasov. You can either walk or take the Tampa Cable Car (Telecabina Tampa) to get to the top of the mountain. At the summit (967 m) a 15 minutes walk in the direction of the large letters of Brasov leads to a viewing platform called Belvedere. Unfortunately the weather was a bit foggy when we were there, but nevertheless we enjoyed the panoramic views of the old town. On clear days even the surrounding area can be seen. For more info about the Tampa Cable Car please read my "Transportation tips". Leave a Comment

When wandering around Brasov at night you will definitely notice the illuminated Hollywood style large white letters of BRASOV. They are installed at the hill Tampa at a height of about 960 m and can be seen from the Town Hall Square (Piata Sfatului). There are some more sights which are illuminated in Brasov's old town. Among them are the Black Church and some buildings around the Old Town Hall, so a walk around Brasov in darkness is recommended. Leave a Comment

Strada Muresenilor, Brasov by Fam_Stoica The today's Muresenilor St. received the name of Monastery St. in 1520, because there existed a Dominican monastery. Later it became Customs St. because at its end, towards the old city of Brasov, existed the customs for the goods which were brought into the fortress. On the right side of this street, not far from the former entrance in the town, it is placed the Roman-Catholic Church, a certain jewel of Baroque architecture. Leave a Comment

by Aurorae Architecture of Brasov is very original, there are some truly unique buildings, among them this school! Yes, believe it or not, this is a school where children go to study! It looks more like Harry Potter college, but after all, this is Transylvania... muahahaha (spooky laughter here) Leave a Comment

by Aurorae Sun & ice, snow everywhere, freezing cold, but as beautiful as in the fairy tale! The road to climb the Râsnov fortress on the hill behind the little village of Râsnov is full of scenes like this, but they are the same all over the Brasov area, especially in the Poiana Brasov ski center, you can't escape dreamy frost scenes... Brasov is a multicultural place, besides the majority of Romanians, there are also a lot of Germans and Hungarians living there. It is great to see the cultural diversity, inscriptions on several languages, and different cultural programs around the town. There are also Catholic churches, beside Orthodox ones (since Romanians are Orthodox). Leave a Comment

by Aurorae If you are around Brasov area in winter, you'd find lots of icicles hanging from just about anywhere, including trees! It is so charming, and gives extraordinary ornaments. They can be easily picked up and played with. They are especially lovely when they glitter on the sun. Leave a Comment

Black Church by Nobbe The Black Church is one of the most important and doubtlessly the most imposing monument built by the German people from Transylvania in Their 850 years of history. The name "Black Church" was conferred to the main Evangelic - Lutheran Church of German language from Brasov after the catastrophic fire in 1689, when the whole city was actually burnt. The flames and the smoke blackened its walls, but the sumptuousness and the greatness of the church couldn't be destroyed.
