 Free Brasov map by HORSCHECK During our time in Brasov we used a free map from the Tourist Information Centre. The map also included some basic information about Romania, Brasov and the sights. The Tourist Information Centre provides various free maps, brochures and magazines, not only about Brasov but also about other destinations in Romania. Brasov's Tourist Information Center is located inside the Old Town Hall at the Town Hall Square (Piata Sfatului). It is open from Monday until Sunday from 9:00 h until 19:00 h. Leave a Comment

Like many other countries in Eastern Europe, Romania is a rapidly developing country. Unfortunately, it is often difficult to find a Tourist Information Office or just a free map, therefore an up to date guide book is highly recommended, especially for independent travellers. On both our trips to Romania in 2007 and 2008 we used the new German travel guide Reise Know-How - Rumänien und Republik Moldau which was very helpful. Unfortunately it is not available in English. Another very useful travel guide is Trescher Verlag - Rumänien entdecken . Also this book is, to my knowledge, only available in German, but regarding descriptions of the sights it is the most comprehensive. by Varvarino You may want to bring some spare nuts--oops, I mean spare cash--when you come. This is the local credit union. I don't know whether they would change your traveler's checks here, although there are certainly hotels and change booths to turn your hard-earned cash into Romanian lei. (Nuts are SO much easier!) I don't think that you need more than money and a lot of time. You'll find in Brasov everything you need and for all the possible "shopping attractions" the price is still smaller than in most of the other countries in Europe.
If you want to go out for short trips in the mountains, take your hiking shoes...
Are you going to stay in a hotel with more than three stars... than you'll have everything you need there. If not, ask us for a better hotel :)

Nothing brings down a trip faster than hauling around too much luggage. It's expensive to tip taxi drivers to handle it, even more expensive to pay overweight luggage fees
Decide what you will wear to travel in and deduct those items from the list below. 1 long skirt OR one simple long dress , 1 pair light jeans ; 1-2 pairs shorts or ¾ pants ;1 long-sleeved blouse ;3 light tops ;1 - 2 bathing suits. ;3-5 pairs underwear, 1-2 bras ;1 oversized T-shirt (for sleeping, beach cover up, etc.) ;2 pairs shoes - 1 pair good walking shoes, already broken in, and one "nice" (but still very comfortable and well-soled!) pair for enjoying the nightlife. Tuck socks into the shoes to save space. ;1 windbreaker or other light, waterproof jacket;1 big scarf or square, tieable sarong - suitable as emergency skirt for monastery and church sightseeing. Winter travel: 2 pairs of good walking shoes with good grip, so that you can change if one pair gets wet. Do not take shoes with leather soles as they will land you on your back when the snow turns into ice. 1 thermal top; 2 thermal vests; 2 leggings to wear under your jeans/pants;
In some countries, it may actually be possible to get medicines over-the-counter at pharmacies, but it’s better to bring your own to be sure. Keep these in your carry-on luggage as well. A note from your doctor is also a good idea, to protect yourself from any questions as you go through customs. Basin plugs as most hotels do not have any
Adaptors and Chargers for Electronics If you carry a digital camera or cell phone, you’ll want to be able to recharge it. Having a charger won’t be enough because American-style plugs won't work in Eastern European electrical outlets, so make sure you purchase a power converter/adaptor. The proper device will reduce the 220 volts to a safe 110 volts for your appliances, as well as use a plug with two round prongs to fit into the sockets of your hotel room
If you are going to be hiking, bring insect repellent. Mosquito populations can be quite dense in forested areas. You also need to be wary of ticks. Products are available, but you may feel more confident with your own DEET-containing chemical spray or lotion. Toilet paper.
Documents Don’t forget them. Passport, visas, credit cards, money to exchange. Put all of these items safely in traveler’s wallet . I scan my documents and then send it via e-mail to my yahoo adress where I can make a copy quickly in case of emergency. As a second back-up a Full-Color Photo Copy of Your Passport and Visas If your original passport goes missing, a good-quality photo copy can serve you well. Store these separately from your other documents so that if your wallet gets lost, you’ll still have your color copies. Contacts and/or Glasses If you have impaired vision, bring all the necessary supplies. You may have difficulty finding the products you need when you get to Eastern Europe. Tips: Wear your bulkiest shoes and jacket as part of your travel outfit. What - your bulky shoes aren't comfortable enough for airport treks? This tells you that pair shouldn't go at all. Tempted to fill up any extra room? Don't! - leave it for souvenirs on the trip back Leave a Comment
