After we relaxed on the mountain top, we got down using the path for family. At the begin, the road was easily to walk one, but we have came across with 2 parts of the path a little more difficult than the large road. It took us 2 hours to go down from the top of the mountain.
During this path you will see a small glade, but the rest of the path is not spectacular, only threes, and more threes.
This path is marked with one red line.
I recommend you to use this path to get down from the mountain top, because it is more easy to get down on it than to climb, and the other path presented on my reviews, The Seven Stairs Canyon to use it to climb to the mountain top, even though is a little exhausting, but is more beautiful, and it's not dangerous on the climbing, if you use Seven Stairs path to get down, you have to be careful, there are small area where you can slip.
The Seven Stairs Canyon mountain path, in Romanian : Canionul Șapte Scări
It is a beautiful mountain path, but at 16th June 2012 was closed. A small sign in Romanian was placed near the first stair announcing that the road is too dangerous and to take another route. Nevertheless , we climbed the first 3 stairs (first 2 stairs were stable)- the third had about 15m high. Also, the stairs are vertical, made from metal- iron I think, and some of horizontal bars are wet because of the water of cascade. We needed 40 minutes to get to the canyon.
Even though we had to come back from the 3rd stair and to take another path, what we saw after the second stair was amazing, the canyon is loud because of the water cascades in it-7 of them, but breath-taking.
I don't recommend you to climb on the third stair, it wasn't stable, and it's best to avoid accidents. The 4th stairs was holding on in only one part, so we didn't even think to try to climb it.
How to get to the start of the path?
From Predeal to Brasov, in locality Timișul de Jos, go right on the bridge from DN1 and the go about 1km until you reach the Dâmbul Morii Cottage (cabana - in Romanian).
That, or what is left from it is the starting point. you will see a pointing sign after, one pointing you to Drumul Familiar (the road for family), which is a mountain path better to take while you get down and is marked with red line, and the other one that we took, is marked with yellow line, is the one in right, and is more beautiful and spectacular than Drumul Familiar .
The canyon has a length of 160m, with 58m difference between levels.
Also, you will find near canyon, before entering a small covered place to rest, with two benches, and quite an unfriendly info mark, in Romanian,English and German warning that the path is dangerous.
I sincerely hope someone will repair soon the damaged stairs, because the canyon is a beauty and I honestly regret that I couldn't see it.
After this canyon we continued following the red dot mark until we reached the mountain top called Piatra Mare- 1.843m.
After we saw the Seven Stairs Canyon, we continued with the path marked with an red dot- it was the alternative path instead the canyon, we wanted to take the path inside the canyon, but it wasn't possible. After that, we continued with the path marked with one yellow line.
It took us 4 hours to reach the mountain top, and the path after the canyon was spectacular, beautiful, but also a little exhausting. Nevertheless, the view from the mountain was amazing, and soon after we arrived, a lot of people arrived too.
On the mountain is a cottage that offers accommodation for 30 RON (around 9 Euro).
