One afternoon we popped into Restaurant Marty at Horea street for a late lunch. It is a modern furnished, two-storey restaurant and bar. We took a seat on the upper floor to admire the view down to the bar and lower floor.
The menu with dishes of local and international cuisine is only available in Romanian, but most of it can be understood even without knowledge of the local language.
I chose the extra crispy pork cutlet with fried potatoes for 21,50 RON and to drink I had a local Ciuc beer for 4,40 RON. The meal was excellent and we especially liked doing some people watching in the well-frequented restaurant. On our last day in Cluj-Napoca we chose the Restaurant Gente Senior for our dinner.
We already noticed the place when we had lunch at the Restaurant Marty. Both restaurants are located in the same building.
Gente Senior seems to have two areas: A proper restaurant area in the back of the room and a pizza place in the front area, which also has an upper floor.
As it was a Friday evening the whole restaurant was packed, but by chance we found a free table in the front area, where the tables are small and very close to each other.
Pizzas come in two sizes: 600 g and 1200 g. I ordered a Pizza Bismark (13,00 RON) and a local Ursus Premium beer (4,00 RON). The pizza was very filling and yummy. After our arrival in Cluj-Napoca we checked in at the hotel and then directly headed off to town to get a bite to eat for lunch.
As we were quite hungry we chose the first option, which was Pizza Y. Due to its central location in a backyard with arcades and outdoor seating it looked appealing to us.
The menu offers a wide variety of pizzas as well as pasta dishes. I opted for a Pizza Romana and a Pint of Skol beer.
The pizza was good but not exceptional, so was the beer. However, for me it was just the right choice to start a two week trip. With 11,50 RON for the pizza and 4 RON for the beer the bill was reasonably priced. Located in the south east corner of Piata Uniri you have to get in above an arch and there are some woodden tables where sit and take a good pizza, a beer, and a coffee for 5 euros i guessed remember...extremly cheap...

This restaurant is one of the best restaurants in Cluj and I just love it.Usually I don't go out to eat as I know how to cook, but a friend from another city came to Cluj and we went there.I was absolutely fascinated.The people, the surroundings, the music, the waiter , everything was just perfect.I never had such a lovely evening out.
You can eat anything you are in the mood for starting from traditional Romanian food to Italian, Hungarian...
The prices are acceptable and if you seek for a good balance between services rendered and cost, it worth it.

Bistro, in Savadisla.Savadisla is a small Hungarian-like village on the road from Cluj to Baisoara, some twenty minutes away from downtown.
I was there in Easter period, so I had 'drob de miel' (miel means 'lamb'): it's prepared with finely minced lamb's liver, interiors, eggs and vegetables, cooked and preserved within a very thin lamb's gut. It looks like a large 'salami' and it's served as an appetizer. During Christmas time, you may find 'drob de porc' (porc means pork... it's easy!). In fact, in Europe it is usual to have the pigs killed in winter and the lambs in spring.
Another very interesting dish I had was prepared with roasted 'fasan',
a wild bird with a long brown-reddish tail; it was served with fried apple slices, fried potatoes, lemon and cherry jam. I loved it! Leave a Comment Theme: Other

On one of Cluj's busiest avenues lies the "Varzarie", surprisingly cheap if you take into account its relative location and its good foods.
You may eat any dish invented that contains cabbage, from cabbage soups, to cabbage pie, and the locally famous "Varza a la Cluj " ( "Cabbage a la Cluj "). They also serve stakes and other Romanian ( mamaliguta, ciorba de burta ) as well as Hungarian ( paprikas, gulas ) dishes.
