Banks in the main shopping area

Most of the tourists come in Constanta at Tomis Mall , the pedestrian street Stefan cel Mare , the main shopping area . Here you have more than 7 banks and inside Tomis Mall you have another bank where you can change your money free from cares ( I strongly advice you to do so ) !

Beware of the pickpockets and scam artists!

I had heard that Constanta has, even in Romanian standards, many pickpockets. The rush hour around four o’clock appears to be the moment these people operate the most.

Despite all the caution we took, one guy managed to somehow steal 100 lev from my breast pocket! I thought it would be impossible! Just after hundred meters or so, another dude was asking for the time and at the same time grabbed my wrist. Fortunately, I’d left my watch to the hotel as I thought something like this could happen.

Sad as it may sound, according to my personal one-week experience in Romania, it’s better not to stop on the steers to talk with anybody.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT IN CONSTANTA
tedicu profile photo
tedicu 7 reviews

I WOULD STAY OFF THE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION AREA IN THE SUMMER.IT CAN BE A BIT CONFUSING ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE GOING TO MAMAIA.BUT IN THE REST OF THE YEAR THE BUSES ARE NOT SO CROWDED AND PEOPLE ARE HELPFUL-ESPECIALLY THE YOUNG PEOPLE WHO KNOW ENGLISH BETTER.REMEMBER TO BUY YOUR TICKET IN ADVANCE.YOU CAN DO THAT AT SOME STORES NEAR THE STATION OR TICKET STORES ALSO NEAR THE STATION. NOW IT IS 2,4 LEI S FOR 2 TRIPS AND REMEMBER TO PERFORATE YOUR TICKET.THERE ARE SOME RED BOXES ON THE PILLARS INSIDE THE BUS.PUT THE TICKET IN AND PRESS THE BUTTON. 40 43 AND 100 ARE THE MOST COMMON LINES AND A MAP OF WHERE THEY ARE GOING CAN BE SEEN AT THE BUS STATION NEAR THE TRAIN STATION

THERE ARE ALSO SOME SMALL BUSSES CALLED MAXY TAXY WHICH ARE VERY USEFULL BECAUSE THEY TRAVEL LONG DISTANCES AND ARE CHEAP.2 LEI PER TRIP .U BUY THE TICKET FROM THE DRIVER (USUALY THE MINI BUSSES ARE WHITE WITH GMS WRITEN IN THE UPPER PART).IF YOU WAVE TO THEM THEY LL STOP AND PICK U UP.IF THEY RE EMPTY TAKE ONE BECAUSE THEY TRAVEL TO THE END OF MAMAIA AND THE DRIVEN WILL STOP NEAR THE HOTEL U RE STAYING IF U TELL HIM.USEFUL FOR PEOPLE WHO DON T KNOW THEY RE WAY AROUND.AVOID IF CROWDED. IN THE SUMMER ALL THE MAXY TAXY S GO TO MAMAIA SO DON T WORRY.IF U WANNA SEE A BOT OF THE TOWN TAKE THE 301 MAXY TAXY WHICH TRAVELS THROUGH THE CENTER/

TAXI S NEAR THE TRAIN STATION&PUBLIC TRANSPORT
tedicu profile photo

ESPECIALLY IN THE SUMMER MONTHS WHEN THERE ARE A LOT OF TOURISTS THERE CAN BE A LOT OF CABS WITH OVER PRICED FAIRES..BEST THING TO DO IS TO GET OUT OF THE TRAIN STATION AREA AND WAVE TO A CAB.THEY SHOULD LET THE METER RUN AS SOON AS YOU SAY THE DESTINATION,IF NOT,ASK THEM TOO.IF THEY SAY THAT IT S BROKEN OR SOME STUFF LIKE THAT DON T PANIC.THESE ARE THE USUAL FEES FROM THE TRAIN STATION TO DIFFERENT AREAS OFF THE CITY SO U WON T GET RIPPED OFF

TRAIN STATION- CENTER 5-6 LEI EQUIVALENT: 2 -3 EUROS DEPENDING ON WHERE U WANNA GO

TRAIN STATION-MAMAIA:HERE IT DEPENDS ON WHERE YOU WANT TO GO. BECAUSE MAMAIA IN ITSELF IS SO LONG(7 KM) U LL PAY AROUND 15 LEI 7 FOR THE USUALL FAIR.THAT S AROUND 8 EURO S BUT THE DISTANTCE IS PRETTY BIG.

MAMAIA -CENTER 10 LEI -3 EURO S

REMEMBER :THE NIGHT FAIR-FROM 10 O CLOCK ARE LARGER THAN THE DAY ONES:EXPECT TO PAY 50-6O % MORE THAN THE DAY ONE S. THE CABS ARE YELLOW OR YELLOW AND ANOTHER COLOUR AND THEIR FAIRES ARE POSTED ON THE DOORS.IF YOU FEEL YOU ARE GETTING RIPPED OFF SAY THAT YOU ARE GOING TO CALL HIS CAB COMPANY(THE NUMEBER IS WRITEN ON THE CAB ) AND REPORT HIM:HIS LICENSE NUMBER IS WRITEN ON THE CAB:USUALLY 3 NUMBERS.OR CALL THE 112 NUMBER(WHICH IS THE NATIONAL EMERGENCY NUMBER FOR POLICE EMERGENCY CONSUMER PROTECTION ETC.IT S FREE TO CALL SO DON T BE SHY ABOUT ASKING SOMEONE TO CALL IF YOU HAVE HAD AN ACCIDENT OR ARE IN DANGER.).RETURNING TO OUT TAXY S ,THE GUY WILL USUALLY BACK OFF.BUT DON T GET AGRESSIVE BECAUSE THINGS CAN ESCALADE.MOST TAXY MEN ARE NICE SO DON T WORRY THIS IS WORST CASE SCENARIO.LIKE I SAID,EXPECT TO PAY A BIT MORE IN THE NIGHT TIME.

YOU CAN SWIM SAFELY IN THE BLACK SEA.
tedicu profile photo
tedicu 7 reviews

rowo.i think you have been missguided.the sewage plants in constanta are the most modern in romania and this part of europe.they have been recently built and the sewage water is filtered through a series of eu standard systems which leaves the sewage water very clean and more importantly dirt and chemichal free.then it is disposed of in the black sea but in a non turist area near the harbour.so the conclusion is YOU CAN SWIM SAFELY IN THE BLACK SEA.

Changing money.

Do not change money on the street! Not only is there fake money here but it is illegal. A passport is required to be produced at forex shops. Rates of exchange vary slightly from place to place.
Be careful of pickpockets.

Be carerful with your money and don't flash it out in public. Also, be careful where you eat... a lot of places can get you sick. Go to a place that looks decent and looks like it has a clean environment.

Because of this area being such a tourist trap there are a lot of pick pockets and people that want to take advantage of the rich people visiting. Be careful and don't walk around by yourself at night.

Also be careful of the Black Sea. If you notice from the Hotels along the beach it is raw sewage that is going directly there. Yet the people swim in it all day...
