    Day trips to Vineyards (Odobesti, Niculitel etc.) and cruises on the Danube River (60 km by car to the Delta - crossing the river by ferry).

    The Old Gate of the City is a ruin (however, still standing not far from the city centre - maybe it will feature one day in this album). This is what I like to call the New Gate of the City - named by the artist 'Poarta Povestilor' ('The Gate of Fairytales'), one of the 'scrap' sculptures on the bank of the river - my favourite!

  • Directions: Galati 'stands' on the left bank of the river. Just ask anybody for 'Faleza' (the 'river bank'). It's within walking distance from wherever you are :)

    Plenty places to fish around Galati if thats your thing. Banks of the Danube...many fish from the Faleaza. The Siret is pretty popular and can be accessed from the city or if you want a picturesque spot get yourself to Barbosi train station just outside town (buses go there and obviously trains from the main train station in town) then from Barbosi continue walking the path away from town...its a bit of a walk but worth it when you get there...beautiful peaceful spot with a bit of beach. Few stray dogs around like everywhere in Romania but they generally dont do any harm just make sure your fishing rod doesnt threaten them if walking past them.

    There is also a lake just outside the city but its not that scenic although popular with locals and its right beside the enormous steel factory so waste is a bit of a danger.

    The Faleaza is a long walkway along the banks of the Danube littered with modern art sculptures. It takes about half an hour to walk and there are quite a few restaurants and bars as you near the port. Very enjoyable.

  • Directions: A scenic way of getting to the Faleaza is to walk down from Tiglina.
