Sinaia Shopping

There are many shops that line the streets leading up to either entrance to Peles. They have many of the same items, so bargaining is a must- and can be fun. The Romanian people are generally outgoing and friendly, so it's easy and fun to spend some time looking at their wares and chatting at the same time. Items include everything from handmade lace and wool items, to cheap tourist trinkets.

What to buy: Beautiful hand made items of lace, cotton, or wool are less expensive than at home. They also have distinctively carved and decorated wood bowls and trays.

You will get plenty of fresh air walking from the monastary to the castle. Fortunately there are all these stalls selling lovely goodies for you to buy and you can bargain with them.

What to buy: Tablecloths and gypsy tops

The craftsmanship in Romania is very good and with good exchange rates the prices are very reasonable.

What to buy: The handmade table cloths are beautiful.

We especially liked the hand painted eggs. I think they are made in Moldolvia.

The walk up to Peles Castle from the station is lined with souvenir stalls selling everything from T-shirts to models of the castle. From what I could see, it was mostly junk.

Stop by one of the Gogoseria booths you will see all over the town and buy some Romanian donuts. The plain ones are called "gogosi" while the ones stuffed with cheese are called "langosi".

Penny Market is where you go when you need food, drinks, snow tyres, etc etc etc. Very nice little shop

The stalls sell every kind of thing, but the table cloths and gypsy tops are special
