In the summer of 2004 I been to a wedding in Carei and experienced a local wedding.
The weddings take place at the weekends, from saturday afternnon until sunday morning. First, there is a short ceremony in the town hall, where the couple gets officailly married, the second stop is at the church where the religious ceremony takes place. After all that the visitors are going to the wedding party (in my case the towns motel) where they get a lot of food (and i really mean... A LOT), and can dance all night long....
Some characteristic of the local weddings:
-Many times the happy coulpe will be seen on a fancy carriage at thier way to the wedding.
-If you will hear a convoy of cars use the horn continuously (some even tie empty cans to the back of the car) and making a lot of noise.... then its a sign that there is a wedding.
Finding an Internet cafe to check out your importent updates shouldnt be hard at all in Carei. As most of the cities youngsters dont have an internet connection from thier own home, there are many internet cafes that can be found around Carei. I can think about at least 8 internet cafes in the city (that is relatively high number for a small town like Carei). Most of them are well equipped and the prices still remain low (an hour costs about less then a 0.5 Dollars). some of the better ones, that located in the towns center are: Ocean, Info-net and Techno but there are more that can be found around the city neighborhoods.
Some of the internet cafes are located in computer shops, so you shoild take a look at the computer equippments in the shops, there are sometimes very good offers and the prices are funny for western travelers.
Every year, at the end of Augost there is a festival that held in Carei, it called "Carei days" or as the lcals say "Karoly napok".
The town gets a really good atmosphre for 3 days while the central streets become a kind of pedestrians with many stands that sell many cool stuff in cheap prices, small food stands and some huge tents where you can drink a lot of beer as the locals do...
In addition to all this there are also car exhibits, activities for children and music concerts at evenings with some of the best singers and bands from Hungary and Romania. There are also many dance parties alonfg the streets and in the Castles bar that continue until the morning.
So if you have the luck to be in Carei at the end of the summer you must see it!!!
