The Orthodox Cathedral is one of the latest churches that were dded to the religious ponts in Carei. The works started at the beginning of the 1990's and generaly finished in 2004, althogh there are some insignificant details that are still in prograss.
The works for the Bizantyne style church was led by Bara Csaba (an arch. from Satu Mare). It was constructed in the honour of Saint Demetrius.

The town hall is a well known place for me (my aunt is working there so I been inside many times) and I really believe that it is one of the most beautiful sight in town.
The actuall town hall building was built between 1910-1911. First it was used by the Albina bank., then it became the civil engineering office and after 1945 it was the house of the communist party.

This castle was first built in 1492 as a fortress by the Karolyi family. In 1794 it got its actual llok as a baroque styles castle.
The castle situated in the towns biggest park in its center, the lovely park is a great place to spend a hot afternoon, there are many walkways, benches, fountains and also a terrace-bar called "Karam". . .
This castle is the most impressive building in Carei. Altough todday its somewhat neglected and the repaier works are very slow its stil has the charm of a beautiful old european castle. Inside the castle there is a museum (the tickcket is very cheap, less then 1 Dollar), in the first floor there is a big hall with exhibitions of paintings on the walls, at the second floor there are rooms that contains items from the regions history such: stuffed animals, many kinds of butterflys, old sculptures, old knifes and more...
Today just a part of the castle is used by the museum and other parts are not renovated yet but you can admire it from outside, when you walk at the park.

  • The statue of Karolyi Gaspar - Carei
    The statue of Karolyi Gaspar
    by edvin_br
The first Reformed church in Carei was taken from the Roman Catholics, but was repossessed by the count Karoly in 1723.
The second Reformed center was opened in a little house of prayer made of adobe. in 1740, it was in a very bad condition so its needed an other replacment.
The new church was built between 1746-1752, it was enlarged in the end of the century and a tower was added. The church was badly damaged during the earthquake of 1834, but it was rebuilt soon. The last importent renovations at the church were during the 1950's.
In front of the church there is a statue at the memory of Karoly Gaspar, who was the first man to translate the whole Bible to Hungarian. He was borned in 1529 in Carei and died in Gonc (Hungary) at 1591. The statue was created by Deak Arpad from Oradea and unvieled in front of the church on Augost 1996.

    The renovated Strand
    by edvin_br
The Strand is a comlex of pools built before 20 years i belive and recently was renovated and it looks fantastic. There are 5 pools: 2 for childrn, 2 with termal water and another one that is regular one, big, deep and very cold at the beginning... :((
The Strand is open just in the summer, there are some stands that selling many stuff that you can use in the pools. There is also a restaurants selling hot dogs, hamburgers and other junkfoods. there is a club, called Joy Club, that is opened all year long where you can go and dance and have fun, sometimes there are concerts in the club.
The prices are very cheap: To enter the Starnd it costs 15,000 lei (0.5 dollar) and to enter the Club it costs 30,000 lei (1 dollar).
    So have fun.... :)))

The monument is one of the most famous sights in Carei. It is located in the town center, in the middle of a park with many flowers and trees.
The sculpture was created by Vida Geza, a sculptor from the city of Baia Mare and unvieled in 1964.
