You have to go here! Ocna Sibiului is a former salt mine. Lakes were formed and the water contains very large amount of salt, thus people can stand floating without moving even a finger. Look closely at the picture, nobody is doing nothing, and this is a good thing not to try to swim, because if you get one drop of salty water in your eyes you will cry. I'll give you a hint .. if you get a splash of water in your eyes the only way to end the pain is to ask somebody (preferable an opposite sex friend) to 'kiss' you on the eye to take the salty water - this works believe me.This lake is a must see and bath into, it's the most 'saltiest' lake in Europe. During the sunday's mornings, in the north side of Sibiu (on the exist to Medias), you can visit another kind of market. Even if you don't want to buy anything, it's interesting to see all this outfitters. If there are second hand stuff, you can negotiate the price, like in Turkey or India. If the things are brand new, usually the price is fixed. It's a mixture of things brought to sale: from cars, to cloths and even animals. It's not the look of today's Sibiu, is more like the flavour of the old times. Leave a Comment

Sibiu's location is wonderful in my opinion. It is situated also near hills, also in a plateau, but you can see to the horizon the great carpathian mountains, covered in snow. Leave a Comment

Because it is not adjacent to the old town, some tourists might miss the Orthodox Cathedral. Or perhaps some will intentionally avoid it since it dates only to the early twentieth century. Missing it for whatever reason would be a mistake. Start with the massive, intricately carved doors and proceed in to the huge gold chandelier which dominates the interior. Patterned after the Hagia Sofia in Istanbul, this building has many neo-Byzantine flourishes and is truly exquisite both inside and out. Leave a Comment

A place not far away from the city named Ocna Sibiului. Buses drive over there daily. It's a place with lakes which have salty water. In fact the lakes are very deep, something around 60 metres. but the water is very salty and even if you don't know how to swim it will hold you at the surface of the water. It's said that this salty water is very healthy too. Leave a Comment

Between the city of Sibiu and the Fagaras Mountains in the South is a hidden village laying in a valley and surrounded by green forests: the German village Heltau, in Romanian Cisnadie. On top of the hill the Saxons built a mighty fortified church in 1430. To get on top of the hill, you need to get the key of the gate. We asked a people in the village about it and they sent us to a German speaking family. A little girl (see below) who speaks native German brought us the key, so we had the hill for ourselves to hike up the hill and see the very carefully renovated church. On the top there is a wonderful view on the little village with its red roofs (and its strange large police office). Inside the church was a very strange atmosphere, because of the silence and the emptiness. If you want to stay there for the night, ask for the Djarrhaus (see phonenumber below). In the center of Sibiu, late at the afternoon, we faced at the park behing Hotel Boulevard some men playing chess - and other board games - in a very quiet and pleasant ambiance. If you like quiet ambiances, it worth to be there watching them playing. Remember: chess needs silence to be played ;) Leave a Comment
