The Liars Bridge by Dariana Historic place full of old buildings that preserve its aspect since 15th century.Picturesques and colored houses look to the square with eyes mid-opened. Must be remembered The Art House, the old Butchers House built in 14th century, beautiful house with arches used for temporary exhibitions. Now under reconstruction,it will host The Transylvanian Civilization Museum. Another attraction points: the Goldsmith`s Tower (1567) that make the connection with the Lower Town throgh Goldsmith`s Passage. Must not forget the Liars Bridge ( a place where, whatever you say is considered untrue),built in 1860,a true lace in iron. Leave a Comment Directions: Behind the Evangelic Cathedral.

Whwn you see this ,you see Sibiu by Dariana The symbol of Sibiu, stands in front of your eyes like a testimony of ancient times.Built between 1224-1241, its purpose was to protect the gateway into the second fortification belt; partially collapsed it was reconstructed in 1586-1588.During centuries ,the tower was used as jail , corn storehouse and before 1989 as museum. At the last floor you can enjoy a panoramic wiew over the city ,and not only: the hole plane to the mountain opens in front of you.In the sunny days you feel that you almost touch the mountains. by violeta13 The Brukenthal Museum, in its present structure has the following branches: The Brukenthal Palace with The Art Gallery and The Library The Museum of Natural History cu The Museum of the History of Pharmaceutics and The Museum of Arms and Hunting Trophies The History Museum The most interesting, in my opinion, it is The Art Gallery which has its origins in the art collection set up by the baron Samuel von Brukenthal ever since the 60's of the XVIIIth century. In 1790 the collection is inaugurated inside his residence from Sibiu, where it still is. Opening Hours: in summer: daily 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., Monday closed in winter: daily 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., Monday closed Leave a Comment

Evangelical Church by Dabs We seemed to time our visits to the Evangelical Church badly, the first time we wandered in it was close to closing time and then when we went back it was shortly before services were to start. We did get a good look around the church including the four baroque funerary monuments on the upper nave and the 6002 pipe organ (Romania's largest) but we missed out on visiting the cathedral tower for the view over the city and seeing the tomb of Mihnea the Bad, the son of Dracula, which is either in the crypt (Rough Guide) or in a closed off section behind the organ (Lonely Planet). He was stabbed to death outside the church in 1510 when it was still a Catholic church. The church was built between 1320 and 1520. Leave a Comment Address: Piata Huet

Liar's Bridge by Dabs "I am the Easter Bunny" "I am Santa Claus" Like many tourists before us, we stood on the Liar's Bridge, and told and out and out lies, waiting for the bridge to collapse beneath us. I guess since I was standing on it that I can't say I was disappointed in the outcome as I really didn't want to plunge to my death. The bridge's nickname comes from the shifty merchants who met on the bridge to trade and the young lovers who met there declaring their undying love. The guidebooks both point out that Ceausescu managed to give a speech here without the bridge collasping so really what chance did we have of making it collapse??? Orthodox Cathedral by Dabs The Orthodox Cathedral, in the new section of town, is modeled after the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul. It was built in 1902-1906. I tried taking a photo of the outside from every angle possible with my digital camera and couldn't get the entire thing in without getting overhead lines or other buildings blocking it so this was my best effort. Inside the cathedral there were people worshiping so I did not take any photos of the interior. But it did remind me a lot of the Hagia Sophia even in the interior. Leave a Comment Address: Str. Brukenthal Museum by Dabs The Brukenthal Museum is housed in what used to be the Brukenthal Palace, home to Samuel von Brukenthal, the governor of Transylvania from 1777-1787. The collection, said to be the finest art collection in Transylvania, features Romanian art as well as Western European art exhibited in furnished rooms throughout the Palace, with the original canvas and silk walls, ceramic stoves and 18th century Transylvanian furniture.
