City Hall, Sibiu
I visited the Sibiu TOURIST INFORMATION CENTER a few times, to get some brochures, city center maps and to ask questions about what to see and where to eat.
They didn't have a lot of brochures, but I did notice that they put out one or two different booklets every now and then. For example they had one booklet on walled towns which I liked and another time they had a booklet on Romania and its wine industry.
There is usually ongoing exhibitions here also which is worth seeing. They changed them a few times while we were there.
The main tourist center is located in Sibiu City Hall in the Large Square - Str.Samuel Brukenthal No. 2 and a small one at Sibiu International Airport.
I was impressed by the architecture of this building.
This is considered an "eclectic" style but I haven't seen more than a Neo-Baroque with few elements of Rococo from the Square.
But I am not a specialist and it's not important to clarify that matter here.
I hope I will have another chance to visit all the building and to see the Art Nouveau elements they are speaking about.
We have anyway to recognise that this building is catching eyes with its beauty. Take a look at my photos and tell me if I'm wrong.
It was built at the begining of twentieth century and rehabilitated/modernized later.
This beautiful building, situated in Pieta Mare (main square), has been the City Hall of Sibiu since 2006. It was built in 1906 in the shape of a horseshoe. Originally built for the Agricultural Credit Bank it also was the headquarters of the Savings and Loans bank.
I especially enjoyed watching the films (Flight and Anna Karenina) in the square on an evening looking up at the beautiful Town hall and Catholic church.
Tourist information is also situated in this building.
The City Hall at the Large Square is an eye-catching building. It is one of the younger buildings at the Square, first built in the 20th century as the Agricultural Bank in 1906. The facade of the building has an eclectic decoration with pilasters and rich stucco. There are curve shaped gables with oval windows and decorated with urns, vegetal medallions and human faces.
You can enter the multifunctional atrium of the city hall. Indoors is a Tourist Office with good information about the town. When we visited the City Hall in 2010 there was also a Photo Exhibition of the annual Theatre Festival in the atrium.
Primaria Municipiului, the Old Town Hall stands one corner of Piata Mare, between the Brukenthal Museum and the Roman Catholic Cathedral. It houses Sibiu's excellent Tourist Information Centre.
