Ocna Sibiului is a tourist resort situated at 15 Km north of Sibiu, on the valley of river Visa, in a region surrounded by oak forests and with subsoil rich in salt deposits.
With the first spa's establishments dated from 1845, the resort is well known for its heliothermic lakes created on the place of some old crashed salt mines.
Many of these lakes have a concentration of 260 g/l. Mild climate, atmosphere rich in aerosols, annual average temperature of 9 degree, and the recently renovation of strand facilities, make the resort the prime destination in the summer for thousands of tourists.
Around Sibiu, in Ocna Sibiului, there's a curious place to visit: the salted ponds of a former salt mine now used for therapeutical baths by local people. The landscape and the ambiance is strange due to the ponds digged like little volcano craters.
