Favorite thing: Bucharest has been influenced post ww2 by the european culture and politics, the romanian capital having links with France, Switzerland, Austria, Italy.
The idea of a institution called "Ateneul Roman" originated in 1865 in order to give to the people "usefull knowledge" (culture).
In order to raise money for the construction the people was invited to contribute with "one leu" (national currency).
Construction started in 1886 after the blueprints of the french architect Albert Galleron. The inauguration was held on February 14th 1888 (my birthday .. only the date, not the year:)).
The internationally renowned "George Enescu" Filarmonica has its headquarter in the Romanian Atheneum and it hosts every day faboulos concerts - a must do while visiting Bucharest.Please click on the icon picture to enlarge!

One of the most representative building of the city, The Romanian Atheneum was built between 1886-1888 by architect A. Galleron. The money needed for the construction of the building was raised by public contribution. The exterior arhitecture is a combination of the neoclasic, baroc and ionic style.In front of the building there is the statue of the greatest Romanian poet, Mihai Eminescu
