Yes, indeed, cycling is still in an incipient stage. Since last year, there are some bicycle lanes (only as a delimited/marked part of the sidewalk). Many of them are unused. However, if you can rent a bike, it's a good idea to make such a trip. Here are some possible routes :
* Cotroceni Palace - Botanical Garden - along the Dambovita shore - Izvor Park - Parliament Building - Unirii Square
* Herastrau Park - Charles de Gaulle Square - Victoria Square
Fares : 40-50 RON/day (helmet included)

I guess you can find something in Bucharest that suits your sport activity. The simplest thing is to get your running gear and hit some park like the Herastrau Park. Or you can find yourself a good fitness gym, like IDM or the one in the Bucharest Plaza Mall or the fanciest one at the Marriot Bucharest Grand Hotel. Tennis courts are also available in Herastrau park and in other areas. Covered tennis courts are fewer but it's possible to get that too. If you are into biking and you are used to countries like Holland or other where you can hike by bike in the city and surroundings, unfortunately no good news, you might want to hold that though for a couple of years, for the moment there are no functional routes for bikes in Bucharest or around. We found a billards parlor called "Texas" with 8 modern bowling lanes. The billards tables were crowded, but the bowling lanes were open.
