Beer and rats
Nightlife in Bucharest? Well, if you make it past the eager ladies lying in wait in the hotel lobby, you can walk the streets looking for somewhere for a latenight beer. Keep looking, bud! Old Cliffie ended up at a kiosk selling local beer by the bottle. A dusty glass was wiped with a murky towel and offered, but old Cliffie preferred to drink Australian-style and drank the tepid brew straight from the bottle. Hm, yes, interesting taste. What do they put in it, apart from the Unidentified Floating Objects? And then old Cliffie saw the two cats. At least he thought they were cats until two massive rats scuttled across the road and disappeared near the gutter. Old Cliffie glanced over his shoulder, half expecting Dracula to join him for a drink. Well, he might have been safer company than the ladies in the lobby.
Club Dumars: Young Romanians
Okay, for the ones not so faint at heart. I got a tip to check out this place. It is a complex with three major dance clubs all next to one another. Euro beats, most of the night and top 40 rap/r n' b. Most of the clientele are late teens and early twenties. Tough kids out for a good time. seems like the commercial hang out and its decore looked as if this was a former strip club, i.e mirrors and poles everywhere. All three clubs empty out at the same time which leads to about a couple thousand young people, getting into cars or trying desperatly to attract the handful of taxis. Recommended If you want to see what the majority of young mainstream Bucharest do on a Friday night.Ttry not to attract to much attention. Although my asian (japanese) buddy got more attention from the women then one could wish to imagine. People seemed to love him everywhere he went in the place. He was alot of fun to hang out with.

Salsa Club: Get wet then busy
Great night out. Tucked in the back of what looks like an entrance to a condo or recreation centre is Salsa, where ofcourse its namesake dance is quite popular among certain eastern Europeans. For the fella's, if you can dance even a trace of Salsa, there are an overabundence of lovely partners to choose from. Great energy, Two levels, allows you to look down upon main dance floor from above. An above ground swimming pool in the middle of the dance floor seems curious at first. At about mid-nite, an emcee gets on stage and yells something and belly flops into the pool. Everyone follows in queue. Soaking wet, bare foot dancing the rest of the night. Even a Latin type line dance breaks out upstairs, pretty funny. a great laugh and even better time. 2 bucks to get in.
Dress Code: Not much of a dress code, There are alot of people inside who are dancing all night long so dont wear a sweater, It gets hot in here, da da da da da da. er um.

Different bars you can choose from. All unique in their own way. The most popular spot this past summer was 'M*A*S*H', crazy crazy place going on until late hours of the night... even until morning when you can have breakfast next door. But if you dont like the crowd there you simply move on to the next bar or simply just bar hop all night.
Everything about it is unique. People dancing on the tables, everyone singing just plain crazy.
Dress Code: Absolutely none. Topless? Ok.

"Once upon a time...."
I couldn't resist including this wonderful picture from the early 1930s. It is from a book I own called 'Romania'--it's a collection of photographs taken by Kurt Hielscher. He made a number of these books for various countries throughout Europe during the 1920s and 1930s. The pictures are exquisite--and beautifully reproduced. In addition to the high quality of the pictures themselves, they obviously show a way of life that has all but vanished.
(Click on the picture; it enlarges nicely and shows some of the wonderful detail in the original.)
The gypsies wea bright colors...
The gypsies wea bright colors and seem happy. They have retained more of their traditional way of life here more than in most other places. We even saw caravans of nomadic gypsies, but then again much of Transylvania still lives in a traditional lifestyle.
As in any other country...
As in any other country you can find a large variety of places to spend your nightlife acording with your tastes and of course your poket . If you are a student chose the places fregvented by the students ...many students organisations in this country has internet sites so previsiously try to contact someone of the locals .
In bars and pavement terraces, 10 % of the bill will a reward that is good enough. Leave the money in the map that the waiter offers you.
