La Mama: A nice restaurant in Bucharest

by MariusG

There are actually 4 restaurants with same name, same ownership; we ate at the one near to the Ateneul Roman. The first attempt to eat there without a reservation failed miserably, so we tried the next day, not before asking at the hotel to make a resrvation for us. Unpretentious, fresh and well cooked Romanian food, great variety and fair prices; what can you ask more?

Piatra Craiului: Here they know how to make the steaks

by MariusG

Nice restaurant in Brasov area, with geat views, visited mostly by Romanian customers. While being there, we saw a large group of people who came to eat there all the way from Bucharest. The Romanian tend to overcook the steaks, but this restaurant was a pleasant exception - we got them exactly as we wanted them. And the "mititei" (Romanian minced meat) were delicious.

No luck with Romanian food

by delavue

We didn't have much in the way of good food in Romania, as most of our meals were super bland and simple. Try soups, fresh meat and fish (if you are by a river) and corn pollenta dishes with sour cream or simple vegetable dishes if you don't eat meat. Give it a try, and maybe you'll have more luck than we did. The best Romanian food we had was at a small trout restaurant in Sapanta. Also: be aware that food may not be cooked as well done, and we had to sent back very pink pork more than once. Avoid undercooked meats, of course.

Sura Dacilor: Food?you came to the right place!

by soricel

When you travel, you have to eatbso you can travel more. When you come to Romania, you also have to eat.If you have to eat,you came to the right place. In this country you can eat anything:italian food, mexican food, chinesse food,Mcdonald's food, any kind of food you want! But if you come in Romania,it's a pity eat our traditional food!Anywhere you go don't ask a meniu, cause you will just get confused.Ask the waiter for "meniul zilei" that means the meniu of the day or "specialitatea casei" the house specialty. If they don't have something like that, which I doubt, ask him to bring you some traditional romanian food .You might see a smile on his face:) Here is a picture of one restaurant I really like. It is in Poiana Brasov,a little mountain resort a few km away from Brasov. The atmosphere is great, the food is great and the prices are likely:))

Junona: Junona

Next to the beachwalk in Mamaia, you will find this restaurant which I really liked alot. Here you can have some great meals and having a nice view of the beach. The pasta is really great. I also tried some local dishes as Mamaligua and some deserts like romanian donuts. Really tasty, and I can recomend that to everyone who visit Romania. And why not try some local beers, like Ursus, Silva or Kaiser? Tastes really good after a long day on the beach.

Coliba Haiducilor: Local food at Coliba Haiducilor

by Nobbe

This well-known and central situated restaurnat in Poiana Brasov have been serving gourmands for over 40 years. Considered to be one of the best restaurants in Romania. The Outlaws Hut serves traditional Romanian food in a wooden building near the ski slopes. Sit at one of the long wooden tables and have a second look at the decoration: guns, dried peppers and cobs of corn and lots of skins (boars, sheep, wolves and one bear). Try a tuica (plum brandy), served in a blue ceramic treetrunk and impossible to drink without spilling...
