Mamaia, named also "the Black Sea pearl", is the biggest, knownest and most visited station, on the Romanian coast.
Numerous tourists from whole Romania, but also from the foreign countries, come every year here, and enjoy the sunny vacation days at the Black Sea.
A wonderful new construction, a gondola this drives over the whole station, gives the possibility to view and to admire the whole beauty of the area, from above.
It is a unique experience, which is worthwhile.

    The road down....
    by Mique
If you have the chance to go over the transfagaras highway i can tell you it is worth it. Of course it is a whole different experience then hiking in the Fagaras Mountains. Having not a great amount of time (and a lousy physical condition) a fellow-hosteler and i took a car (with driver) for E30 each to take us up. Luckily due to the very good weather the tunnel on the top of the mountains was still open in october. You might want to check before you go on this road. Because if it is closed, there is just one road open for you. The way back....
In summer i think you can hitchhike this part easily i think but in october we met only 3 or 4 cars going the opposite way.
Along the way you pass Poienari castle. By some called Dracula's true castle. It was at least build on behalve of Vlad Tepes. So i guess it does have a bit more of a claim to it then Bran. You'll see 2 lakes. One huge artificial one then took us forever to go around. And a small, glacial lake close to the tunnel.
We made a tour that included Curtea de Arges, Sambata Monastery and Fagaras which took us a whole day. Tiring but very much worth it. .
Do take some food with you. We saw 2 or 3 cabanas along the way but in october there wasn't a lot of food to be got. We had left Brasov in the morning (on a cup of coffee) and had bought a pack of biscuits in Curtea de Arges. We finally got hold of some food at 5 pm. By that time we were ready to almost eat anything..... But it didn't get in our way of appreciating the surroundings...

I have just started on my Carpathians page but feel free to have a look around
