Brasov, a city with mountain perfume

by Fam.Rauca

Brasov is a town with a splendid geographical position in the middle of a nature paradise. The mountain Tampa with a high of 967 metres is an important landscape element of this region and Brasov lies on the foot of it.The Black Church is one of the most important buildings of the city. This is a Gothic building, erected in the year 1476.In the church there are a lot of valuable pieces of art and architecture. The old organ with 4000 tubes and 76 registers, the old hand made carpets, or the paintings of the walls there are part of the precious wealth of the church. The Sf. Bartolomeu Church, a building from the 13th century, the Sf. Nicolae Church from 16th century, the Council House and many others, are components of the architectural custom of the city. This Transylvanian town was called the “Salzburg of Romania” for its splendid look in the middle of the mountain panorama.

Iasi, the culture citadel

by Fam.Rauca

Iasi is the culture heart of Romania, an open-air museum, a splendid collection of artwork, architecture and a very important nature tourist attraction. The city has a long and precious history, in that, the Moldavia prince Stephan the Great (1457-1504), plays an important role. Many churches of the city were built under the order of this prince. In Iasi, was initiated the first university from Romania, and many important poets, writers and artists studied and lived here. Romantic and feeling, are upper-case in this city.Copou is a Botanical Garden with over 20,000 species of flowers, in which, under the scented lindens, strolls the young amorous pairs thinking to the poems of Mihai Eminescu, one of the significant Romanian poets.

Sight-seeing

by Stevib

Bucharest: Visit the museum of the villages. The houses of parliament, which was Ceausescu’s palace, defy belief. The biggest building in the world with a whole lot more mind-boggling statistics. Do not go home without visiting this building if it's the only thing you do! You can pay for the guided tour and the finish of the tour lands you on the huge balcony to stare out over the almost 2 km long boulevard stretching East out of the city. Amazing.ConstantaThe area around the Ibis hotel on the North side of the city, the Promenade and the old casino. The docks and the small but interesting Roman museum. Some lovely places to eat. The only failing is the beach and the surrounding area of the beach which is filthy.

Orthodox monasteries in Wallachia and Moldavia

by josephescu

In the 14th-18th centuries, monasteries in Wallachia and Moldavia were generally erected, financed and maintained by local aristocracy, merchants, dignitaries or clergymen. Historically, proliferation of wealthy monasteries was encouraged by local aristocracy as means of reducing the income base used for the calculation of the annual tributes due under Ottoman suzerainty. On the other hand, fortification of monasteries was a subterfuge in order to delude the Ottomans' interdiction to built defence fortresses that could oppose resistance to them. Monasteries defence functionalities also explains their remote locations, usually near the Carpathians and the Subcarpathians, as well as the disproportion between the dimensions of the church itself (generally small) and that of the defences (usually much larger). Monasteries development over time was also due to the valuable assets and vast...
